For homework it will be more than enough. For games it depends which games you play. This is not a gaming machine and most new games will probably lag on this machine. Although this would be perfect for daily use at home or for students, such as browsing, watching movies, normal Word Excel tasks and even for basic computer programming which most students would do in a university. It would probably not be suitable for anything which requires intensive graphics which includes games and intensive photo editing softwares.

Hope this helps.

You won't find a better deal. Perfect for homework etc.

Its fast, but not really suited to games because it doesn't have a graphics card.

It would play online games but would struggle with any real games, although could possibly manage FIFA and the Sims on low quality settings

Because you get the code yourself when you join dell VIP. 2 Codes if I remember correctly.

There is a typo in description. The screen size is 15.6'' for the cheaper model

I had the 15.6" 3000 machine delivered yesterday - nice little machine for the £225 that I paid for it. It is a little bit slow at times and is sluggish to start back up after sleep, plus the wifi was very flaky.... i'm working on all of those problems so hope I can sort them out because it is a bargain machine.

Mind if I ask where you got it for that price?

stuffdpup

It's here

Sorry I must be getting really senile but I still can't see it. Your link takes me to a front page. I have looked at all the options but cannot see the 15"

Thanks OP - £251 for a new i3 Dell, I am happy with that. Just what we need for browsing, photos and homework.

cut & paste my link into address bar. That should do it. Dunno why it didn't work, hey ho.

The Dual core, non-i3, one on the Dell site is £249. So with the 10% off, is probably it?

I think that the 15" is a 3000 series rather than the 5000 that the topic heading suggests.

Sorry I was not looking at it in such a detail, took me a while to understand what was suggesting the 5000 series. I guess I am getting too old for techy stuff Changed the title, hope its clearer now.

You need to register to get your own, but it only took me 2 minutes to do. They then email the code and its 10% of any purchase.

Mate just go and apply yourself as an employee rather than waiting for someone, all you need is an email and your workplace address (I dont think they have a way of verifying it by the way (_;)). The normally send the codes within minutes.

I didnt need an employee address, I just entered three initials in the employer name. email straight through as you say. Easy peasy.

The 15.6'' is no longer coming up in search results. what's the difference between 3000 series and 5000 series apart from the screen (the 17.3" has HD+ resolution)

edit: The laptop can be found by cutting & pasting the link, would like to know the difference between the two models apart from screen size and resolution

You are right it is probably not required but the other day some people were saying on another post here that they did not put employer details which might be why they have not received the VIP codes after days. I did not want to take a chance and provided the details Received mine in the next minute or so.
Thanks for letting us all know though.

The description is misleading. This was posted for £314 6 weeks back and not £415 as mentioned.

Still a saving of £18 which is not bad
