terrible food, 0.1 out of 5 … terrible food, 0.1 out of 5 http://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/dog-food-reviews/0012/bakers-complete-adult

why would what u assume is a reputable company like pets at home sell this if so bad!? My dog has been eating this for tears and at least from the outside looks a picture of health. I do think a change might be needed based on this though. Any recommendations please?

We use Harrington's Hypoallergenic can only find it in Asda , the standard Harringtons gets 2.9/5 , best compromise between price and quality and the hypoallergenic has a higher meat content than the complete

We stopped feeding this stuff to the mutt, because we were warned off. We use Iams now. No idea if it's any better?

look at that site and it will tell you

We buy Skinners dog food it's a mid range food and as with any brand if you buy working dog food you don't pay VAT. Someone recommended Fetch and have used them a few times. Delivery is quick as they use Ocado and they keep you informed as to when the driver will arrive.

Have a look at Skinners but the hypoallergenic stuff like Salmon or Duck not the muesli one. Stay away from Bakers if u can, nasty stuff x

both my 2 dogs have always had bakers too. They're 12 and 8 and are never ill, only time at the vets is for jabs and vet agrees bakers is a good food for them. So I agree with you jongerry.

Out of all the people on here, not so many is it?

My girl must know that this is no good for her. She wouldn't go near her dish when I first tried her on this. If you're on a budget I recommend harringtons. I give my girl the turkey, veg 1 week & lamb, rice the following week. She gobbles it up straight away. Heat from me though as its still a deal nonetheless.

I think the trouble with most dog foods in general is you don't know whats in it , when it says "animal derivatives" it can change from one week to the next and be different parts from different animals , there is also colourings and preservatives again not listed as what they are and why would a dog need colorings in there food ? , if you look at the Harringtons link above it tells you exactly whats in the food personally that's why i prefer so my dog gets the same food every week, i did start my puppy off on Pedigree as didn't know any different until someone mentioned to me

My expertise? A dog owner that wants the best for his dogs.

E320 - has been found to be tumour-producing when fed to rats. In human studies it has been linked with urticaria, angioedema and asthma

E321 - banned for use in food in Japan, Romania, Sweden, and Australia. The US has barred it from being ...used in infant foods. So bad McDonalds have voluntarily eliminated it from their products.

E310 - Banned from children's foods in the US because it is thought to cause the blood disorder methemoglobinemia

E172 - Banned in Germany

E132 - Can cause skin sensitivity, a rash similar to nettle rash, itching, nausea, high blood pressure and breathing problems. One of the colours that the Hyperactive Children's Support Group recommends be eliminated from the diet of children. Banned in Norway.

E102 - TARTRAZINE - A trial on 76 children diagnosed as hyperactive, showed that tartrazine provoked abnormal behaviour patterns in 79% of them

E110 - Sunset Yellow has been found to damage kidneys and adrenals when fed to laboratory rats. It has also been found to be carcinogenic when fed to animals

E104 - One of the colours that the Hyperactive Children's Support Group recommends be eliminated from the diet of children. Banned in Australia, Japan, Norway and the United States.

E171 - Banned in Germany

E153 - Banned as a food additive in the United States of America. Suspected as a carcinogenic agent.

If you're happy with putting all that into your dogs then thats entirely your choice.

Life is always about compromise and opinion disguised as fact. Many vets are happy with bakers, many are not.Price and convenience will always be a factor and may well decide if you can afford to keep a dog. Better a dog whose health may, just may, be a little compromised than a dead dog in my view. Always check if the so called "expert" doesn't make his living out of selling a rival dog food (many do)
Feeding excess water to rats will also cause cancer, one needs to know far more about many finding and see peer reviews before giving them too much credence. Naturally the hypoallergenic children's group is looking for a blame figure, wouldn't we all, doesn't make it true though.
Beware of non expert "experts" and dogmatic statements (no pun intended) from any source, things are always more nuanced than that.
60 years of dog ownership, many years of feeding Bakers and dogs which live well beyond their usual span in good health is my experience. This I know, the rest is speculation.
