Ballantine's 17 Year Old Blended Whisky - £25 - Sainsbury's

31
Found 4th Jul 2012
Normally £40.49 at Sainsbury's, cannot find it online for less that £38.

This is an absolute STEAL!

Now, if your voting and think this is cheap and a deal, then please hit hot. If you think you can get it cheaper, let us all know and hit cold. If you hit cold just because you don't like Whisky/Alcohol, or I've misspelt something, then please don't!

Let me know what you think. I can tell you that Bristol Filton still have a few (2-3) left on their shelves this morning. And for some reason when you try to buy this on home delivery it disappears (for me anyway). So the online aspect of this deal may be regional.

heres the marketing gumph.

A nice nip - heat added (to my throat :))
Not my cup of tea I'm afraid. Plenty of really good malts on offer just now for the same price which (in my opinion) offer better value for money.

Not voted either way.
Not a big fan of Ballantines, but for a good bottle of whisky this is a very good price. Heat added.

Also added for the curious the fact that this is a 70cl bottle.
Ralfy Review for your perusal!

Doods1875 - fair play - what would you recommend? I tried Compass Box Great King Street (blend!!) the other day, and that was absolutely fantastic, you wouldn't know it was a blend!
Not the best whisky
And for that reason I'm out
It seems quite a bit for a blend, but whiskies like Jonny Walker Black Label are this sort of price. I've not voted.
From another site:
Full-bodied, with creamy vanilla notes, this is one of the best blends available anywhere. A testament to the art of the master blender, and fiercely championed by Jim Murray.
Whisky Bible Awards 2011: World Whisky of the Year;
Whisky Bible Awards 2012: Scotch Blend of the Year; 97.5 Points

Sounds like a ringing endorsement to me
If you are happy to spend £25 on a blend then this is hot
i cannot believe how much balls someone can talk about whisky. its worse than the stuff you get from red wine drinkers. its a 'quiet' whisky, wtf is that supposed to mean you imbecile.
Not my cup of tea either, but i have only tried the duty free stuff thats 2 for 20 quid...not nice.
i will spend my 25 quid on some Bruichladdich instead
Surely it's a bit past it's sell by date if it's that old lol

It don't talk, it's silent but to much of it could turn to violence, gotta watch the quiet ones I say.
Cubed: who called it 'quiet'?

Still expensive for a blend, never quite tastes as good as a single malt.

On that note, Jura 10 Year Single is £20 currently at Tesco (also drops to £20 very frequently). I do prefer it.

Doesnt look like it's available in my area but this is a fantastic blend and well worth the original £40 in my opinion.
To all those "it's a blend" or "not as good as a single malt" commentors, please broaden your whisky horizon before coming out with such uneducated rubbish. Some of the best whiskies in the world are blends. Blue label, black label, Suntory Hibiki 17, Big Peat, sheep dip old hebridean 1990 and......Ballantines 17 year. All Single Malts are not better than all blends. And I can assure you ballantines 17 year is miles ahead of petrol station/supermarket 10 year Isle of Jura.

Read some books (101 whiskies to try before you buy), go to some distilleries and actually drink some whisky that is not off the supermarket mass market shelf (vist the websites master of malt or whisky exchange to see what your missing out on). You will soon see how good this whisky is and how much better it is than Isle of Jura 10, Glenfiddich etc

Ps - jim Murray classes this as one of the best whiskies in the world for 2012 - and he knows his whisky!!!

Blue label, black label,

Johnny Walker? I'll admit I giggled.

"I'll compare this Lamborghini to the Ford Fiesta over there."

Sure they don't compare and are miles better than a Jura 10, but how much of that do you get for £20? 2, maybe 3cl at best? That's like a miniature. Blue label comes in a silk lined box and sells for £150 retail.

In the bang for buck I'll take a smooth single over a blend. Glenmorangie 18 stocks are low, but it's my favourite mid-shelf when it does crop up.
Picked mine up from Cambridge store yesterday - thanks!
is this deal still on?
I can confirm it still is on (got one today).
Although, if you call your sainsbury's they will claim they have none (it seems to be removed from their system somehow)
i called 2 branches they both said they had none, then was passing one I called (called last night - literally just been there) and they have 6+ bottles on the shelves!!! (filton, bristol if it helps anyone!)
