Sorry is dual rank the same as Channel?

Rank and Channel are different. You want dual channel single rank for best compatibility which means 2x8. Dual channel means 2 RAM sticks working together at the same time in parallel to give you double the bandwidth.

Rank means the way the chips are organised on the DIMM itself. Currently all 16GB DIMMs (i.e. one single DIMM of 16GB) are dual rank. If you buy 2 of these DIMMs you'll have a dual channel dual rank configuration with a total of 32GB of RAM.

Seems like a lotta ram, for the money. Experts, any downsides to this?

Both seem like excellent deals to me.

Depends on what you need. One is a single channel RAM and another is a dual channel RAM if you have Ryzen etc.
Cheers and ordered

The ballistix is single and the g skill dual? For a pure gaming machine with a Ryzen cpu the g skill would be better, am I grasping this correctly? Appreciate your comments

Thats correct. Dual channel is the preferred way to go, especially for Ryzen.

No.

Generally, from some tests of dual rank versus single rank, dual rank architecture might provide up to around 0.5% improvement in memory bandwidth over single rank architecture. But dual channel configuration will provide up to double the memory bandwidth (100% gain) over single channel configuration.

Crikey, bloody confusing even without the wrong specs on the memory.

Yeah, I think I'll pass.
Really nice find here!!

It is tempting me to upgrade my Ivybridge i7 even though I had decided to hold out this year until Windows 7 support is dead next year.

Thanks for posting!
