2 x8gb 2666mhz white edition for £138.99.
I have a question.

I read that there's no such thing as single and dual channel RAM, it's all down to the motherboard and whether it supports dual channel.

So I have to assume that when sellers like Ballistix list 8gb single channel and 8 gb dual channel, they are referring to single 8gb modules and x2 4gb modules respectively. Right?

But they happen to list 8gb dual, 8gb single, and 8gb single (x2 4gb). All with different prices.

What's going on there?

Single and dual rank..... That's different to single and dual channels. Sorry but I can't explain but I do know they are different

Oh great, now I have to google that!
I think I've found the sweet spot from Ballistix if you're interested in 16gb (which I am).

The grey version, x2 8gb dual rank.

works out only slightly more expensive than x2 single 8gb dual rank and is probably a matched set, so will be guaranteed to play nice.
The red version doesn't carry the same discount.

The white version is the same price but faster, bought that instead.

It's just that manufacturers like to sell you 'matched sets' that are guaranteed to work together in dual channel mode but there's nothing special about them. Fairly sure most of us just buy two similar model sticks and plug them in, I've never had a problem doing it that way.
Worth keeping an eye on Amazon warehouse - got 16gb stick of this for £110 last week, looks like it's never been opened.
