  • This is an excellent radio suitable for AMATEUR RADIO operators. It is NOT SUITABLE FOR PMR446 as you can change the antenna making it illegal for use on PMR. This is a proper radio & NOT a child's walkie talkie. It's the high power version with an expanded battery capacity & it's the cheapest it has ever been.
  • If you want to sit the exam ( it's easy ) then contact the RSGB on this link rsgb.org/mai…ng/
  • GT-3TP Mark-III is Upgraded version of GT-3 Mark-II with Tri-Power: High / Med / Low Power Settings (8W / 4W / 1W).

I posted it here because I can & it's a hot deal for anyone licensed to use it. If you are not licensed then you can always attempt the very simple test & obtain a Foundation Licence in Amateur radio. Here the link to the RSGB who can help you. rsgb.org/mai…on/

For those interested in PMR446 & why this type of radio is never going to be suitable here's a video that explains.

Yes you will.

Is it any good for the zombie apocalypse?

Good radio and a steal at this price. It's nice to see some unusual deals being posted from time to time.
Hot for me...

How would the authorities know if you have licence or not?

How would the authorities police those people who are using these radios without licence?

Do they have enough resources to come down and knock on your door to check if the signal is coming from your house?

If you stick it in a Zombie's mouth and short the battery, yeah.

Very High Frequency

This has pretty much been this price for most of the time, so it's not really a deal. Then the OP only a week ago called Baofengs "rubbish". So, what happened?

The radio is legal for PMR use. The radio does not need a licence...the operator needs to be licensed

I don't think Ofcom who issue the licenses actually go around monitoring amateur radio if you are attempting to communicate with the radio you might find licensed HAM operators will be able to tell you're either not licensed, hold a foundation/intermediate/full licence or misusing your license and have their own observation community they can report you to where you risk a large fine and/or prison time and your equipment taken away if licensed may get revoked

Not sure is such a hot deal, I picked up a Baofeng UV-5R and paid £13 for it, similar spec.

Yes....If he has a ham licence he can legally operate it.
Anyone can buy any ham radio stuff but you must have a licence to transmit on it.

Simple UK licence can be bought from Ofcom and costs £75 for 5 years. This enables the use of 15 frequencies, spread over 3 bands, each frequency can be further split into 155 channels using the CTCSS and DCS function.
Further more if you have a Marine VHF licence, these can also be programmed in.
They cannot be used from PMR446 as the power at its lowest setting exceeds 0.5 watts.
And I'm fairly certain that removable antennas are now permitted for 446 but that does not mean these radios comply.
