Barclays didn't need Tax Payer bailout, they got it through private investors, so to be honest fair game to them.

Its the banks that did need Tax Payer help that are the ones that should be answerable for any bonuses paid

Barclays took tax payer money, American tax payers money through the TARP program in the US

All banks benefit from tax payer backing through the SLS and QE, not to mention the tax payer backed guarantee on deposits which costs the banks nothing.

To be honest they all at it!
but Q. is is this is a good deal or not?

I get the same package, apart from airport vip lounge access from lloyds for £12 a month so unless you consider vip lounge access to be worth 7.99 a month, this isnt much of a deal imho

there is one available from Halifax too (£7.50 after £5 reward) but this one seems comprehensive cover.

Surely there has to be some difference between BG cover and this?
I pay BG £30 per month for gas, electric and plumbing cover.

is the electric cover in case a plug socket falls off lol, as for gas i wouldnt let a bg employee near my boiler, same goes for plumbing...my friend does mine thanks and i trust him...i have always thought gas/electric/plumbing cover is a waste of time, not had it 14 years - in that time ive had 2 pumps fail so for me thats about £100-150 of work, so ive saved over £3K

i suppose both covers you for any breakdown to your 'normal' operation of central heating, plumbing etc...one thing Barclay would not cover as far as i know is annual service to boiler. anything else i have to admit i do not know, perhaps other members could highlight..

last couple of years have a problem with my boiler and have had electric dimmer switches fail on me so in that sense i am happy to have had some kind of insurance.

i am tempted with this deal but need more info.

When calling british gas to get an explantion into exactly what would be covered by the homeserve policies they are very vague and aviod giving yes or no answers to what is covered. They offer one policy for around £3 pm, which i know is not much but it only insures things a quality home insurance does anyway. (Underground pipes drains and tanks) The Ultimate Rwd A/C from the Halifax offers a cover provided through Homeserve - it covers up to £250 per instance, and is there for emergency situations - so a burst pipe, broken window, water leak etc. It is a first point of call to aviod damage or further damage to the home, which then can be rectified yourself or claimed for on a home insurance policy. I have to say, the halifax Ultimate RWD also means that you recieve a higher interest rate on savings too...The one year easy access ISA @2.8 the offer, becomes 3% and it also means you qualify for a creditcard where for each month you spend £300 you get a fiver back the next month (subject to passing credit checks)

Anyho....Food for thought!

I recently interviewed someone at work who had worked for an outsourced company who sold these types of policies who left the company because she felt they were unethical!! Basically an emergency has a lot of t and c

Ie you have a toilet that is leaking or blocked if you had 2 toilets in the premises it wouldn't be classed as an emergency because can use other toilet! Same for sinks etc

She said 75% of claims got declined because they were not classed as an emergency!! Something to be aware of and read t n c

(can't remember which comPanies policy they were selling)
