Barclaycard Rewards Credit Card - 0.25% on purchases £25 Cashback

This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

Seems the best alternative to Tandem following their monthly free introduction!

  • 0.25% cashback on your everyday spending*
  • Get an additional £25 cashback when you spend in the first month of receiving your card. Offer ends 6 March 2020. New customers only. T&Cs apply.
  • No fees on purchases abroad - as long as you pay in the local currency and you won’t pay fees on non-sterling purchases
  • Protection on purchases over £100 so if there's a problem, you could be covered for a refund - that's a feature that comes with every UK credit card (conditions apply)
  • Exclusive savings on live events with Barclaycard Entertainment
Community Updates
You get till the statement date to pay off foreign cash withdrawals which is rare however barclays used to charge no withdrawal fees but now it’s 2.99% for both minimum £2.99 so withdraw £50 pound in euros and it’s £2.99 charge. Clarity would be better in this situation

Have you tried the Amex cashback card?

Was looking for a backup card as Amex not accepted everywhere

Unless using the Centurion card there is a 2.99 FX fee.

Aqua still offers 0.5%
I'm on a legacy Barclaycard that pays 0.5% It started as a Morgan Stanley paying 2% many moons ago and has been eroded with each passing bank. Not sure if it's still available via moneysupermarket...
I've got one of those but it started as Egg Money 1% cashback.

It's not available to new customers. Amex is the best cashback card and most places accept it now.
Thanks OP, I changed my platinum card (no benefits after intro period) to this one. it said foreign purchases were 0% but when going through t&c cash withdrawals are 3%. So, not likely to replace my clarity card or starling bank (Debit card) for cash withdrawals, but a no brainer for all normal purchases. You will need to spend £10,000 to get £25 cashback (0.25%), so if anything its a free meal at the end of the year.

Foreign Purchases and Cash Withdrawals are 2 different things - so that's why you're charged 3% for withdrawals
I already have a Barclay Card Credit Card...can I get this?? Or is it nee customer's only??
Hmm this seems like the best cashback mastercard now tandem have ruined their card...

It's good in theory but Amex isn't as widely accepted. I'd choose this of the two
great. will apply for hubby
40044084-s9c7h.jpgSo is it fee free or not..?
40044084-DgL3B.jpgThey're not sure...
I applied for this last week and at the end of the process got told that they would make a decision. Didn't take a screenshot of the application number, as I was fully expecting a confirmation email from them... since then, silence. Anyone else experienced this? Reckon I should try again?

Did you press confirm and stay on the page til it updated? That's how you get the decision
I couldn't tell you now. All I know is that it displayed the application number and a message saying they needed a little more time to make a decision. Didn't think much of it until now several days have passed without any update or email.

Will give it another couple of days and then re-apply. Got my Tandem card to tie me over until the 9th

Amex most definitely is widely accepted, just not as wide as MasterCard or Visa which are almost universally accepted.

The bonus £25 cashback offer is only available til the 6th so if you're going to reapply might be worth doing before then
barclaycard seems to be more pedantic than other credit card providers. i applied one for hubby and one for myself and hubby only has a limit of £3,000 and I only have a limit of £2,000

hubby normally gets 10k credit limit and i get 15k so 3k and 2k is quite low. it also asks that we send in proof of income and we haven't had to do this before. we only have £200 credit limit until we send in proof of income. too much hassle so we are going to use it for the £25 bonus then ditch it. can't be bothered with all this disclosure for a piddly credit limit.

Excellent reminder, thanks

I've just tried to apply again, and like the previous time, getting the message they need a little more time to perform checks. It doesn't give me an application number (maybe I remember this wrongly from previous application) so I guess they don't want me as a customer.

if they are reviewing your application, it means that you have not passed the electronic credit check and so they will need to review your application manually. when this happened to me in the past it can take up to 2 weeks to receive a decline/acceptance letter or a week before they call you to check salary details.

I misread your post as:

It's rare that I find I cannot pay with AMEX, discounting it because you may have instances where it is not accepted is throwing money away. With AMEX you can get £100 bonus cashback and the lowest normal cashback rate is twice that of the Barclaycard.

If carrying an extra card is too much hassle, fair enough, I would rather have it and get the extra cashback.

£10k and £15k aren't high limits - they're still low to mid limits.

If you don't like Barclays process just cancel the applications within the 14 day cooling off period and be done with it.

I use amazon, it give .25% on elsewhere n .75% on amazon purchases... £10 gift card is credited to amazon account as soon as there are 1000 points.

This will give cashback annually.

Check the MSE website for best cashback cards, for other store cards like Sainsbury's, M&S... etc ..

The Amazon card is only good if you are an avid Amazon shopper.

Likewise the store branded cards are only worthwhile to those specific store spenders.

Most people are better off with a "generic" cashback or points earning card to allow for more freedom on spending and earning.

That pesky "as" was in there . It's all good, at least you were willing to admit you had misread it. Fair play for that

Would you agree with me then that it isn't *as* widely accepted?

100% Agreed .....

There was aqua reward card that is discontinued now.... and then there was tandem cashback card.. now they are charging £6.99 monthly fee so I am closing it........... both were giving .5%.
So this is the only card in market at the moment giving cash credit for cashback ( though after a year like Aqua reward).

higher than 2k and 3k! i find that i am fine with spending below 14k a month, so that's fine

i am going to milk the £25 bonus first before i close the account as i have £200 credit so as long as i buy something within the first month, i will be entitled to the bonus. then i am going to close the account after that.

i have the natwest reward credit card which gives 1% on supermarket spends and 0.25% on all other spend. there is a monthly fee of £2 but as a reward current account holder, the fee is refunded so i get the card for free. i have to pay £2 a month for the reward current account but i get £10 a month cashback from the account so this works best for me.

And Amex cashback cards.

The HSBC Reward card rewards you with “points” that you can put towards purchases and statement credit for purchases too.

Seems like a waste of a hard search and a closed account on your credit files/history for the sake of £25. But each to their own...
