Students should be living off pot noodles and high alcohol lager, not wasting student loans on overpriced consumer electronics!
Had every iPhone until the 8.. Felt let down every upgrade literally because a bigger phone, a better screen and worse battery.

Went to android with the Huawei mate 20 pro and love the phone, just miss the apple simplicity with the home screens etc which never ever changed.

I think with sales makes sense apple doing this, there new phone will have 3 cameras and a bigger battery which mirrors the Huawei mate 20 pro... So in essence there really falling behind with competitors
savvyB05/04/2019 18:36

This will pump up their sales, which they have been lacking lately!

Got to get rid of them XR’s somehow.

Agreed.

I’m thinking that we are at the stage of this generation of technology that we are pretty much at the top of the game.

All that can improve is the battery and camera yearly.

It is the integration of the software with day to day living that will be the next big movements.

People (Apple and Android) always throwing out the ‘no innovation’ but when you ask them what they want / need they draw a blank. Maybe that is because we are at the end of this cycle?

But hey ho fan boys will be fan boys.

What's bad about the XRs? Was thinking of getting my wife one as an upgrade from her 6
We’re all gonna need this with the way Apple, Samsung and Google are bumping up prices!

I’m part of the Apple Upgrade Programme (rent the phone for a year, swap it for the new model when its released, repeat next year). For me, they all have their pros and cons, but no phone is absolutely unbelievably doing stuff that would drag me away (iPhone included). The idea of a folding phone intrigues me but seeing the Samsung crease is disappointing.

Until some radical game changing tech emerges, I’m fine with Apple. That and I have homepod, airpods, watch, iPhone, macbook pro, iMac and iPad devices and after that we have family settings and subscriptions for the family.

Just joking. She’ll notice a massive speed improvement from 6 to XR. It is just the lower spec to the XS. In my opinion the XR was too expensive for what it is but if you can get a good deal on it, as I say, your wife will see a massive boost in battery, speed and camera.

£720 for 128gb from very currently.

Had a quick read, seems the main difference is the screen but not that massive a difference.

Lol True Tone, liquid retina screen, longest ever battery life in an an iPhone ever (not hard I admit), 11x Bionic processor, Face ID, portrait photos, wide angle lens. Pretty sure she will notice a difference.
Why wouldn't you just get a 26 or more month interest free credit card, set up a direct debit so it's paid off before the end of the offer rate (or transfer). Oh and buy it from John lewis for the 24 month warranty?

As technology has significantly improved other than camera (offering stunning results) I'd hold out a couple of years and get the next generation '5G' hardware along with decent 5G data tariffs.
I've bought the Samsung Note 9 that I'm quite happy with.

XS has two rear cameras so the pictures are better, especially in Portrait Mode.

Has a much better display in terms of pixels but also because it still supports the 3D Touch (XS is OLED, XR is LCD and can’t do it) where you can press down on an app or item and get a menu. Best way to think of it is like doing a right click on something on a computer. (See pic)

Excellent thank you, she'd never use that and as long as photos are better than iPhone 6 (and has more. Storage than 64gb) which they will be shed be happy so don't think it's worth the difference.

Thank yiu
If only Apple priced their products accordingly.

Nothing mate. Every few years I get bored and switch to Android for a few months. Then I regret doing it and end up back with Apple. The XR is probably the best buy value wise, yes the screen is not as good as the XS but bigger battery and £200 cheaper makes it the pick for me. Get one, you won’t regret it.

If only we didn’t have capitalism as a system.
Very interesting, Apple wants to become a credit broker in the united States, they'll soon be offering finance options for their own products, I guess they are unsuccessful becoming one in the UK, probably due to regulation :/

I agree with this- I have the 8 and, to be honest, don’t see much of an improvement from the 6 plus I had. No real desire to get a newer one as it’s clear that for what I use a phone for, it can’t really get any better. Facial recognition and improving cameras don’t really do it for me, but then I have no idea what would pique my interest to change. Can’t criticise the products, perhaps other that the regularity of them. Would prefer more time dedicated to polished products on a 2 year cycle than rushing products out and then working out what needs to be improved.

I don’t agree technology is at the top of its game, I’ve thought that previously, then all of a sudden a game changer happens. I once bought a wide screen crt TV and thought they had nowhere to go, then all of a sudden flat, light TVs appeared and it totally changed things.
Phones have just moved into the realms of computers, where updates are little and often. At some point though, something will come along and change everything. Possibly folding phones, possibly something else.

Why is it apple people like to tell the world how many Apple devices they own as if it's some kind of competition with how many times theve paid over the odds for outdated tech with a 1 year warranty?Just find it strange?

On my 4th and likely last iphone now
i wait a year for the hype to settle and buy my phones second hand at a fraction of the price on gumtree
They're great devices for simpletons, no doubt. The biggest issue is value. There isn't any. Apple prices used to be justified by their quality and simplicity. Turns out android is way more simple to use these days. Every setting you need to use on iOS is buried behind many different menus or a hidden gesture that the OS never explains to you.

Oh, and don't even get me started on their laptop keyboards. The only company in the world right now selling a 15" laptop for £2300 starting price that is faulty and guaranteed to break before you even open it.

That's all great until it's either blocked or needs a new battery 6 months later.
The interest is buried in their super profits margins!

Not what I've found...I'm writing this on an s8 I've had for 2 years and paid £300 for. Not blocked no battery issue. Others before that also worked for a good while with no issue. Do your homework and use your head.

I'd never buy a product from a company that's happy to rip off their customers.....

I guess they are offering good finance deals because people are cottoning on to their scheming ways.

If only you could trade in and do finance too. Does not let you.

Every company making a profit is ripping you off. That’s what profit is. When everything else is paid for to cover their coats, all the rest you are just getting ripped off.
The market sets the price in the long run. Apple charge what people are willing to pay.
theyre doing one for Richer sounds too
Desperate times call for desperate measures. God forbid Apple actually tried to reduce their profit margins to entice sales for a change clearly that's too mainstream for them.

The day people walk away from Apple for good is coming. Sooner than ever. So much more value out there if people invest time and willingness.
