Barclays 1.79% two year fixed rate mortgage - re-mortgaging only 60% LTV

Whilst pondering my mortgage options I found this two year fix.

I called up and made a few enquiries and there are no product fees and Barclays cover valuation fees and legal fees. If i state a valuation and they disagree with the valuation then i can either consider another product or cancel the application at no cost.

I am on a 2.29% base rate tracker so figured this seems a good deal for me as i can't see the base rate dropping in the next two years.

Sorry, i don't know how to fix the link, it won't seem to let me change it, copied the address into the description above though.

Anyone know a bank who will take on a remortgage whilst on benefits?

Not sure, I think you should try a mortgage broker, sorry.

Anyone know a bankbuilding society who will re mortgage for a pensioner ???

the rate afterwards is 3.99% for the rest of the the term so you have to remortgage again to a better deal and theres no guarantee you would get one. Might have low payment for 2 years but much more expensive after. I'd stay on the 2.29% even though its variable for the term, thats a very good rate.

Thanks for the comment, I will have a think about it. I knew I would have to remortgage in two years, but my thinking was why couldn't I find a comparable tracker again in two years? So on my mortgage of £150k I would be saving about £50 per month for 24 months = £1,200 and then I remortgage and hopefully would be able to find a similar deal or another tracker. Either way its a gamble as there is also no guarantee that my rate would stay at 2.29%. However, you have given me food for thought so I will think about either sticking, fixing on this, or moving to first direct who have a base rate tracker at 2.19%. Cheers
