Bargain (I use the term loosely) Trip £1879 on the Orient Express with timeout

Found 26th Apr 2016
A trip to Berlin (from London Victoria), spending a night on the Venice Simplon Orient Express, followed by 2-nights at the Gendarmenmarket Berlin hotel (in Berlin) and a flight back to Gatwick (i.e. back down to Earth with the grotty bump of Gatwick Airport).
Or you can do it the other way around...
I think the only dates available are 1st to 5th June, so anyone free those dates, of a romantic ilk and with a spare 3.7 grand - well, hurry up and book
p.s. I am well enough aquainted with the site to know that this isn't necessarily likely to go above 10-degrees, but you lot always have a great sense of humour and the capacity to surprise - so who knows???

Oh crap! My link doesn't seem to work...
It should take you to:
escapes.timeout.com/lux…ale
Alternatively, go to Timeout Escapes and search for Orient Express
p.s. Can anyone fix my link?

Come on guys - give me a little heat, just for the audacity of this deal!
Before I vote, can you tell me if you are a junior doctor or not, DrBones?

Great price!
Nice find!
You should try the Eastern and oriental Express much better in my opinion ....real class
The flight looks to be with easyjet; the return to Earth starts well before Gatwick!

59 degrees - positive (not -59!). I'm astonished...
...come on guys, get me up to 100 degrees - pleese (pathetic rhyme)
+6 degrees for you.
Great price. We did an evening trip on this from Victoria with an 11 course meal and it was awesome. Lasted about 4 hours I think. Was a while back now but was about £350 each from memory, so this is a good price for a decent trip where you'll be well looked after!
If I had the money I'd do this in a heart beat

Almost there - 100 degrees, here I come!
If you are looking for the Orient Express on a budget, then check out the sleeper trains. I arrived into Venice from Vienna on the sleeper when the Orient Express was in and yes it looks very posh, but I think you still have shared bathrooms and just a sink in the cabin.

The Vienna to Venice one was lovely, with a request to the attendant the bathroom was unlocked, you were given clean towels and a Dove shower gel. OK, you don't get the food but we took food onboard and it was lovely. I'm a big fan of overnight trains in Europe! There are various routes you can do but avoid the Trein Italia ones. The Austrian trains were far better.

Lol, I get a good amount of annual leave!
Good deal but please don't call me Loosely.
I know this is probably a stupid question but once you board the train at Victoria do you go through the channel tunnel?. I thought that was just a high speed train!
If yes though-
What happened prior to when the channel tunnel was built?
cheers
Ah that explains the frightened but well dressed people crowding around the end of Victoria Station fascinated by the sight of the McDonald's hatch nearby...
Is there supposed to be something funny about this??

In a similar vein, took wife on Concorde to Paris (via Bay of Biscay to get to mach 2) for a big birthday, back via First Class on the train. Fabulous. What a shame you can't do this any more.
If I had a million quid and a girlfriend I would definitely go for this.
I thought about this but I didn't want to get ideas above my station.

I guess you travel on board the British Pullman to Felixstowe then travel on a luxury coach under the Channel, then board the Orient Express which only travels on mainland Europe.
Yes, you do share a bathroom and you have a sink in your cabin..... Still the epitome of luxury though..

What happened before the channel tunnel (up until the mid/late 1970s) was that "The Boat Train" made up of several ordinary livery plus three dark blue gloss painted first class carriages left Victoria for Dover and the three first class coaches were taken onto the ferry to Calais. Once in France they were hooked up onto French trains and continued to Paris. Second class passengers had to leave the train at Dover, walk onto the boat and become pedestrian passengers until they joined the French train for the next leg of the journey.

Are you seriously asking this? I do worry shout some of the people on this site

Prior to the tunnel being built the train did not cross the channel, do you think they just took it off the tracks and onto a ferry?
