I bought this - thankyou!I have a newly bought athlon x2 for sale now :-(

Stick the athlon in the for sale section

When your desktop arrives try puting the Tag number into Dells support page and you should get a list of the software/drivers you require for your hardware. You can also check if its got any dell waranty listed:evil:
The drive may of course still have the dell hidden partition containing the os and all the drivers if it has then a couple of key presses and 5mins later you should have a complete system setup as originally supplied by Dell.

Dont forget to come back and let us know how you get on.

Can anyone explain exactly who the sellers are and what these units are i.e. 2nds, returns, refurbs or new ?

Full details here

If you scroll through the pages there are returns, new but damaged cases and overstock items for sale. Some still have full Dell warranty's on them others are 90day rtb. Prices reflect this.

Any chance the same spec machine would ever be stocked again ?

Its a great bargain

Original Poster Moderator

Its possible Munkee, why not take a look through the other stock, plenty to choose from

Original Poster Moderator

Had to happen to you Magicplastic didnt it

Maybe they will offer to just send you a replacement graphics card which would save sending the whole lot back.

We will of course be very pleased to see a report on how they deal with faulty units.

Can anyone confirm that all these units come with standard USB 2.0 & Firwire ports? cheers.

Dan welcome to HUKD

You need to check with ITCsales if you need firewire or check the spec of any model your interested in on Dells own web site first as most if not all Dell desktops have no firewire on the mobo but do have them on some sound cards, plus some have them fitted on seperate cards.
All current Dell desktops have USB2 ports.

Thanks for the quick reply, firewire isnt really a problem, it was just for faster ipod transferring, but for those prices I can put up with usb2 and buy a firewire card if not.

Hi

I purchased the dell 9150 but it's not working. When i try to load windows on it gets to the bit where it says about the partition of the hard drive and then says there is an error and wont let me go any further.

I will have to return the computer, does anyone know how good they are with returns etc?

Thanks

Suzanna

Welcome to HotUKDeals suzanna Sorry to hear you've had problems with these too.

Thanks for the feedback magicplastic. Please keep us updated all who've used them! Thanks...

I purchased a Dell Dimension 5000 the other day.

The system is fully working but came with a Geforce 6800 instead of the 6800GT as advertised.

Went through there online support and it looked like all I had to do was return the card and get a GT from them. After requesting a RMA they said I needed to return the whole system and Dell would prob give me a full refund. As i was happy with the system and it was still a bargin with the 6800 I asked them for a partial refund and ended up with £25 return.

Welcome to HotUKDeals Twisty

Just out of interest, what were the system specifications and how much did it cost you?

From the replies here, it looks as if they don't bother to much about what they're sending out...

Original Poster Moderator

Just a small bit of advice here, if you ask them for the Tag number of any Dell you are thinking of buying, you can then go to Dells customer support pages and type in the tag to get details such as what date it was originally delivered and the original spec it had when sent out. Generally I wouldnt expect the basic pc/laptop components to have changed even though its a 3rd party selling them.
If they wont give the tag then somethings fishy

Hi

It was a:
Dell Dimension 5000
P4 3.4 GHZ
320Gb Total HDD (2 x 160GB) SATA
256MB Nvidia 6800GT (Really a 6800!)
1GB RAM
Multi Media 13 in 1
DVD Re-Writer
DVD Drive
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 zs

£307.80 Including VAT and Delivery
£282.80 Including the £25 refund

Hmm... Sounds decent enough Twisty.

I would do as MikeT suggests though, ask them for the Dell Tag Number so you can see the exact original specifications on the Dell website before you buy.

Just a Quickie: If I already have a Dell desktop which I no longer intend to use, would I be able to use the Dell backup Win XP disc to load XP onto one of these new machines ?

Bump .........

the XP is tied to the original system so you can't activate it on another PC

The XP on your original Dell is licenced to be on there, but wouldn't be for the new PC.

As steffcip says

Original Poster Moderator

It should work fine, though when you go to sell the other machine you will need to peal off the Licience tag from it to keep with the current machine.
I think all the dell XP looks for is that it is installed in a dell machine

you can move from 1 pc to another only a retail copy of XP and activate it successfully

Hi all,

Just a quickie - anyone have any news to report on itcsales - I am still pondering buying a machine from them as the offers seem great value - just concerning with the 'problems' reported on here.

markluk

Bought one from them, great service, will be using them again, to sell on ebay!!

I bought one last week, it was a machine that someone had ordered and then cancelled at the last minute thus meaning it was brand new. I've set it up to check and it seems absolutely fine and certainly does look brand new. Absolute killer price as well! Of course when I come to use itproperly there may always be a chance that something might gbe wrong with it but as I say, when I checked it, it seemed spot on.

Original Poster Moderator

I would be interested to know what the Dell warranty pages say about these machines. Try checking the tag number Here
And give us some feedback please.

Hi

Sorry for the delay in responding.

I found out through the support that i needed to unplug the card reader to install windows as the computer thought there were lots of hard drives and came up with an error. I plugged it back in after windows was loaded and its all working fine now.

I found the support to be very helpful (I dont know anything about the programming of computers) and he guessed what the problem was from my ramblings.

The support guy said that where it was a high end machine it was not as simple as just putting the windows disk in as you normally would. I would advise if like me you are not really up on the setting up of computers to use the support as it may be some weird thing that needs to be done that would not occur to you to do.

Hope this helps.

Suzanna

I am in the process of buying one of these bargain Dells for my son as his current old PC does not allow the very latest games to run...eg Hitman Blood Money.
Is the Geforce 6800 suitable or should I be looking elsewhere?..I am avoiding the ATI x600 and Gforce 7300LE cards offered on some of the dell systems as I've read they cannot handle the latest games.
Any comment would be most appreciated.

Original Poster Moderator

currychops-I will start by saying I dont play games so cant give you advice on that card other than saying its now a year or two old so it may not be able to run the latest games at hi frame rates, but it probably will run them with some reduced detail. The fact that these PC's are at rock bottom prices is reflected in the fact that the graphics cards may not be the latest and greatest.
However there is nothing to stop you fitting a later card in one if you wish, I doubt you will pick up a £400 pc with a £200 graphics card easily from ITC or elsware.

pgilc1- Sonds like a real deal there on the warranty, confirm with dell that it can be transfered to yourself and you have a winner

Hello
Great deals!
Was about to build a PC for a friend, but got a nasty surprise when they reduced their budget to £500, can now buy a super-specced PC, cheaper than the cost of the parts!
Just need to steer her towards upping the budget a bit and get an XPS.
Cheers

Hello, please be aware that the systems which have the "256MB Nvidia GeForce 7300LE TurboCache" card will also have a PCI Express port which means they are future proof, the other system all have a AGP port which the new gfx cards coming out will not support. The 7300LE is a pathetic card thought so if you’re buying this system to play games please upgrade to a 7600GT which costs about £120 pounds. “Winner”.

Darren.

"Is the Geforce 6800 suitable"

It's not a bad card, certainly better than the X600, but it may struggle slightly at higher resolutions. For most games, though it'll be fine. It's about on a par with the 6600GT and X700 Pro.

Not quite right there quackstar84, the following dell dimensions all have PCIe x16 card slots, 5000, 5100, 5150, 8400, 9100 and 9150. Be careful with some of the 5*** series as they may not take the very latest cards which require more room in front of the slot.

Also dont confuse PCIe x1 slots in the spec with x16.

x16 is the video card slot, x1 slots dont seem to have much support from card makers and stay redundant in most systems.

Anyone wishing to check the specs of any of these and other older Dell systems can find all the info Here
These support pages list all the dimension series specs which you can download as pdf's or view on line, very helpful if you for instance want to see how many ram slots a model has or the number pci slots etc.

Thanks very much for all the advice....guess I'll buy one of the Dells with a low spec graphics card (which should be reflected in the price) and opt for a graphics card upgrade....PCPRO gave the Gforce 7600 GT the thumbs up and that is available from www.pcnextday.co.uk for £107 plus postage.
