I think cold voters may be missing the point of this posting. Dell production qualities are the same for this as for the higher spec versions so this is a good alternative for non-gamers who want the convenience of a laptop for casual use. Similar priced models from elsewhere are not as well made. You can get much better value for a little more money but if this is all you need then you minimise your outlay. It is listed because on the Dell site there are NO cheap 1510 options published.

Is there any indication what kind of battery life this has? Looking for a cheap and basic laptop for a friends mother which will just be used for surfing and word processing and this looks like it fits the bill, but she would want to use it away from the mains supply at times.

Intel Celeron? Must be having a laugh.

The Vostro 1000 is much more cheaply made and looks it but it is cheaper... the main problem with this deal is the battery life - it is rated at half the output of the 1510.

With this processor and no video card you could expect 2.5 hours battery life in real life.
