This has been talked about in a previous thread but no real details were given on how to perform the discount so I figured I'd submit it as a deal (however it'll most likely end up freezing).

Currently BF3 Premium for PC is £39.99 from the origin store: store.origin.com/sto…800

However by changing the origin store from UK or US to India or Brazil you can get a heavy discount for the same downloadable item. I purchased it for Rs 1,499 (that's Indian Rupees): i.imgur.com/Pfc…jpg which works out to £17.49: i.imgur.com/3TY…jpg

The content is in English and there are no downloads needed as BF3 is automatically updated regardless of if you have a certain expansion or not. So as far as I can tell it's pretty risk free.

Now onto how you change the origin store location. The stores location is based off IP so you need to have a proxy or VPN to get there. Within 2 minutes of looking online I found a good list of Indian proxies: spys.ru/fre…IN/

Not sure on other browsers, but in firefox go Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> Connection Settings. When there enter one of the proxy IPs like this: i.imgur.com/Viv…jpg . Head to store.origin.com (if the UK site loads delete any cookies you may have stored for origin). If the site fails to load try another proxy (some will be faster than others).

Once there add BF3 premium to your cart and head to checkout. When you're on the payment page, disable the proxy (i.e. in the Connection Settings choose 'No Proxy') and complete the checkout. After that's done you should receive an email 5-10 minutes later and you will be automatically upgraded to BF3 premium.

May seem a little tricky, but I just wanted to make sure I covered all the bases so that anyone can get the discount :). Just remember that this will be an overseas transaction so some credit/debit cards may have a £1 charge, but still works out far cheaper.

Enjoy

EA: Online passes to pay for servers, then remove free servers in favour of ones people need to rent, and then this Premium thing which gives priority server access.

A single penny to EA is funding the cancer, therefore I have no option but to vote cold.

I am with Aleczandah here. I love Battlefield 3 but not going to be buying this or any more future EA games. Terrible company that are just trying to bleed gamers dry. Most other good games offer map packs free or for very little. At the normal price they are wanting more than I paid for the full game.

I have Battlefield 3 on my Facebook feed. I love it when they announce something lately because it just gets 100s of really bad comments but yet still not listening to the customers and still not really fixed the game.

I wouldn't be happy to even pay this price for it.

You're risking a ban with a company that does not give a **** about customer satisfaction. They've banned peoples accounts for forum comments. They do not give a ****.

just to put some things straight, people seem to be confused:

1 YOU WILL NOT GET BANNED, you are doing nothing wrong.

2 If you flick the proxy off none of your payment information will be sent via any 3rd parties. The connection will be made between your machine and EA's server (using 128-bit encryption.) If their are any shananigans then EA are liable.

3 All you are buying is a code. The code doesn't care who you are, what copy your running or what you had to eat last night.

4 Screw EA for ruining this franchise.

    DUMB!

It's just DLC, which you always have to pay for and you clearly don't understand how clan servers work.

Your cold vote is a joke, based on the reasons you gave.

I picked a random country myself but the rest of my address was legit, worked out for me. The reason I said to disable the proxy was purely due to security concerns, I'm not entirely sure how secure it would be sending your details to EA via an unknown Indian proxy. I would assume it would still be okay as the payment page should be encrypted, but I just wanted to be on the safe side. Personally I used my credit card just for the extra protection should anything happen.

Make sure you don't refresh the page once you disable the proxy, if that still doesn't work try deleting the Origin cookies and starting over with the proxy enabled (in firefox Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Remove Individual Cookies -> Search for origin and delete all cookies).

To all the people saying "I hope I don't get banned" this is what I have to say (but this is my opinion, not fact).

Why should they ban you? You saw a bargain and you decided to take it. Would it be a 'bannable' offence if you were in India or Spain ordering? Nope. If you called somebody from one of those countries to order the content on your behalf? Nope.

Really it is an error of judgement on EA's behalf. Why would you make 'Battlefield 3 Premium' cheaper in a country with one of the largest populations? It's just improvident. Also, I am sure many who did not consider purchasing it now consider it of value. Like those percentage discount coupons Origin sometimes gives out, this is an offer. Many people do this kind of thing for physical goods, but the cost of transport outweighs any discount. Here, with digital goods, the cost should be universal, otherwise it will be taken advantage of (and rightfully so). Does it somehow cost significantly more or less to provide people in India with digitally downloaded goods?

Anyway, it will be interesting to see where this takes people. Hopefully EA will think more about their pricing strategies, and also honour this as a mistake on their behalf.

Not to be outdone, DICE released VIP 2, its own free map upgrades for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and claimed it will never charge fans for new maps.DICE Senior Producer Patrick Bach made the claim in an interview with Xbox World 360 magazine. "We don't ever want to charge for our maps and insisted to EA that this attitude was crucial when it came to keeping our community happy and playing together," Bach said. "We're owned by EA but we're still very much DICE."

These type of deals are just icing on the cake.As for the origin hate, get over it, I have love for origin & steam but if you're a proper gamer you will have several download clients anyway. Games For Windows LIVE, now there's a game service to hate...

1 Every penny in EA's pocket gives them more incentive to make BF as much COD like as possible, have you seen details of CQC? More COD than BF (just shoot, dont think, oh and better get a shotgun.)

2 Anyone who brought B2K have been royally screwed over. It even voids your so called "limited" edition. I know players who have stopped playing JUST because of this.

3 Why are we paying for content when they could have easily provided map making and mod tools to the community?

4 EA gave some pathetic excuse how they couldn't make a deal with steam to deliver their games (BS, just pure BS.) So came up with their own. Gamers HATE this kind of thing, we like to keep it lean.

5 GFW does suck, i'll give you that, just another copy of steam.

Surely this 'trick' to get the game cheaper just highlights how badly Europe and the UK get treated by these huge American Companies and their appalling digital distribution pricing strategies.

I would advise everyone who wants BF3 to use this trick (much like the trick used to getting US netflix content).

    Kudos to the OP.

I thought this was a good deal. But considering you can often get a brand new game on PC for £18, I'm so sure it is.

So much for only getting Iron Front and Arma 3 at full price this year... With Sins of a solar, Endless Sapce, Torchlight 2, Quantum Conudrum...And a steam sale most likely soon.

I personally think it's pathetic they don't do a dlc only option. People who bought the game are essentially buying it again.

I'm going to hold out til the DLC is sold separately in a bundle for half the price and try this trick again. EA are money grabbing a-holes so I know they'll do it within time...

I've been rocking the russian copy since release and many people quite openly admit that in the forum.

I hate EA, if i have to buy their games i'd rather it be for the least amount possible.

Cheers OP, worked fine for me!

I didn't want to pay £39.99 as think thats a rip off but £17.99 for 5 expansions seems fair enough! Thats £3.60 each.

Now naturally a lot of people will complain, say how bad ea are etc but that kind of thing happens in nearly every single company out there that sells a product. You buy a game and then have to buy the dlc or buy the game of year edition. You play an mmo you have to pay the monthly sub and then pay for the expansions on top of that. You buy a film and a different version will come out eventually.

So by all means keep your money out of the big bad companies pocket but don't act all righteous by doing so. Because it will just end up in anothers pocket anyway.

1 I have seen CQC, however, this is an untapped stream for DICE/EA, think of all the AA, CS, COD et al, players they could garner.
Besides this is not new, I've played BF through Special Forces, Euro Forces & Armoured Fury, which were all bemoaned by the community, doom-sayers predicted the end of battlefield 'as we know it', players swore they would never return. Seems to be doing fine as is...

The other thing is they have control of the stats, they can see which maps are played most often in what modes, & can therefore make a good guess what people are going to want in DLC, with the popularity of Karkand, Seine, Bazaar, canals & metro it could be the majority prefer the CQB take on the game. As long as they have big maps & vehicles I'm happy though.

2 Voids limited edition - I'm not aware of this - what happens?

3 Because it would eat at their margins, besides provision of user base tools is at their perogative - it's their game. Or simply because they are too busy at their job - making games that make money. Seems to me other that the initial game purchase, spending dev time creating & maintaining tools is a technique for losing money, especially if everyone prefers the free mod to the paid platform, why expose yourself to that kind of risk?

Besides, even if it were profitable, as I understand it the problem lies within licensing the middleware tools that BF3 contains.

We know other studios can do it (Bethesda for example) but for every studio that releases a game with mod tools, there are several that do not, therefore it is NOT the industry standard to ship mod tools, it's the exception. To my mind, studios that produce community content should be lauded, but I don't think the studios that don't should necessarily be reviled.

4 I think the decision to pull away from Steam was made a long time ago, via EA Link, the relative smoothness of Origin in comparison to EA link means there was BUCKETS of time/money thrown at it to make Origin ready for BF3 release IMHO. Can't really blame them wanting to cut the middleman out & take all the profit.

Thing is as PC gamers, I feel we've been spoiled a bit in the past re mods etc & the reason for the EA hate is that it's the thin end of the wedge in the industry. Online passes & DLC have propped up console sales in the face of ridiculous losses to 2nd hand games market & now it's being applied to PCs, regardless of the fact PCs have had virtually zero 2nd hand sales due to online key registration; due to piracy.

If you read the steps and what people post in comments, it suggests to remove the proxy at the payment details, which is after you login. It may be the case that you can remove the proxy before logging, I don't know, but I don't believe it states that if you are reading the same as me.

Also, any extra reminder for people to remember to remove the proxy before entering their payment details is worthwhile imo.

This game has seriously gone to the dogs with the money grabbing tactics of the company. Its not enough the scum bags charge you £40 (oh I play xbox by the way) for the game, but they offer up premium which is a joke, then they introduce rent a server which is also a joke.

They can't keylog you. The only realistic way that they could get your details is if they'd set up a dummy origin page (which seems very unlikely since the Premium thing has been activated on our accounts already). If someone is watching the data that you send when paying, all they will see is random numbers because it's SSL encrypted.

By all means disable the proxy at the payment stage, but if you didn't it's not the end of the world.
