You shouldn't need to use a VPN, GOG have a fair region pricing policy, if its less they show on the item page the difference and that you'll get credit back into your account.

Double check how much you get back - it isn't as much as using a VPN
Yeah like a £1 they tend to give back, VPN is definitely best
Hmmm, I don't usually succumb to using VPN trickery, but... considering the best price is about £28 for battetech alone... eh, oh well.
It's pretty ridiculous how easy this is without a proper VPN, I just use Hola extension in Google Chrome, switch to Russian when I'm on the GOG home page and then switch to dollars for currency. Easy peasy. I've alsways been against stuff like this but why on Earth is there a £20-25 premium for the UK?? This is just a digital license, no packaging, no delivery, just a license to download some content! So if Russia can have it for £9 then so can I haha

Same here. If it’s close I just buy straightforward, but when the delta is as big as it is with this game then VPN all the way. Just hope the game is as good as it looks, but at this price it’s not much of a risk as a pre-order.

I'm assuming this is rhetorical and you don't really need it explained to you how wages and cost of living varies around the world?

Never do this on Steam by the way. It's an account banning offense.

This may be a stupid question but if I did this and bought the game using the extension you mentioned, would there be a problem with PayPal?
I’m sure I saw on a similar post to this one someone mentioned PayPal didn’t allow people to use it to buy things if trying to login to PayPal via a vpn.

I don’t know enough so maybe this is a stupid worry, but I’m just unsure and I wouldn’t want my PayPal account closed.

You get a verification from paypal to your mobile if using a VPN, or do as most people do and disconnect your VPN to make the payment

Ahh, I see, I think. If I wanted to buy this game would this be correct:
1) Log in to vpn or extension Emperor Rosko suggests (I’d do this as I don’t have a vpn).
2) Go to gog.com, which will show me the Russian site. Login to my account. Add game to basket.
3) Go to check out. When it prompts me to login to PayPal, disconnect vpn.
4) Login in to PayPal and confirm payment.

Would these steps be correct or have I done anything out of order? I just don’t want to mess up my gig or PayPal accounts at all, sorry. I’ve not done this before.

I didn't even logout the vpn. Just got a verification text message. All went through OK.

Nah i get no issue through PayPal, just sign in normally. Once it's all gone through, I just open GOG Galaxy on my PC and the game is there.

I did it for deliverance kingdom come when it came out, got it for 16 quid.

When you get to the PayPal login screen, turn off the vpn, no extra verification required.

Yes - that's right
Okay, thank you everyone. I’m still not too sure if I need to turn off the vpn or not before logging into PayPal (especially as I’m not sure if I can turn off the Chrome extension EmperorRosko mentioned while going through the checkout). I guess PayPal would throw up an error or something if I tried to login while connected as Russia and something went wrong. I just don’t want to risk losing my PayPal account.

Another question too: would this work for other games on gog.com? There is one other game I have been thinking about getting recently too and if it could work for both that would be good.

Yep works on all games, I just use xe.com to check the price against current UK price.

I've never turned off the extension when paying through PayPal. PayPal is region free so does the currency translation for you just before payment.
Snagged this and Pillars of Eternity 2 special edition for £23 total. Amazing.

Hi, you can leave your VPN on and GOG will just send a verification email and Paypal will send a verification text to your mobile. No problems at all. Some people don't like the idea of their PayPal account details going through a VPN so you can just close down the VPN once you get to PayPal. I've done this on quite a few games now and never had an issue.

Yes, this also works on lots of other games. Once you have the Russian VPN on just take a look down their store. Best in Chrome as easier to translate it. If it's not showing prices in RUB, then open in Incognito mode - it will be a cookie already loaded skewing it.

I can't for the life of me get Hola to show the russian version of the site. Maybe I have a cookie issue, Hola won't work in Icognito mode so I'll have to manually delete them.

Edit: Solved by reinstalling the extension. Just followed the reinstall prompts from the window that opened after uninstalling through chrome.
