Bavaria 5% Premium Beer - 88p for a 500ml botttle at Tesco

Found 8th Jan 2015
The 500ml bottles of Bavaria 5% Premium Beer are always available cheap, but this is the first time the £1.00 a pint barrier has been broken.

88p for a 500ml bottle can't be beaten right now.

Premium? Hmm. I guess you could use that term with regards to its all, but thats about all, IMHO
Certainly not the "1st time", was this price before Christmas also in Tesco (well in my local Antrim,N.Ireland) and stupidly they had up 3 bottles for £5 sticker...or 88p each lol. Same price in Asda also.

Don't think so it's more expensive at Aldi it's just the usual bull**** that the Aldi people post on here
Not a bad beer but a little dry and twnds to give me a headache after 11 or 12 bottles.
Speaking of German beers in Aldi, I went to Aldi in Germany over Christmas they had 6 500ml bottles of beer for 1 euro 68. I did have to pay 25 euro cents for the deposit on each bottle, but you get that back when you return them... Basically the beer is cheaper than mineral water over there.
Been 91p in our Tesco for a few weeks - so presumably it will now be 88p nationally.
wow great price. don't mind this drink either so hot from me thanks

Bavaria is just as respected as a beer in the Netherlands as Heineken. It is actually ironic for me that people outside NL consider Heineken a Premium beer. We pay £8 for 24 bottles (330ml). Many people make jokes about "buhh heineken, that's sewer water". The same with Peroni in Italy I heard. It's just marketing. I used to drink a lot of Bavaria.

So in Holland, people consider Bavaria as sewer water...?

    Ah I've been found out
Great deal. Its a lovely beer too. I normally buy it in Lidl/aldi's for a quid. heat added.
In terms of preference, this beer is really unpleasant. If you're looking to stock up cheap then go for it, but is much rather spend a tiny bit more for a beer is actually enjoy.

    85p. Just been in.
+1 for liking this beer - Found it after my wife did Stoptober and bought the alcohol free version.

I lIked that, that much I thought I'd give the real one a try and, haven't looked back

Can't argue at this price either. Perfect timing for the weekend!
Definitely 85p in aldi, got a few yesterday

Cross over into France and Heineken is often a good 50%+ more expensive than Stella and Kronenbourg in their supermarkets.

Not keen on Bavaria it's a very average beer. Not many bars in Amsterdam seem to sell it when I've been either.

    Hi,
Until 2003 Heineken in the UK was a 3.4% weak lager - it's now a 5% decent lager. I think this is why it's considered premium in the UK (certainly is compared to what it was!).

what would you say are better in the supermarkets then?
Nothing wrong with Heineken as far as I'm concerned, wish it was on offer more, you only ever see carling, carlsberg and fosters etc which are all crap.

When did I say that Heineken was premium? I understand only too well that it's just well marketed swill. Is budweiser a premium beer in the US? Nope. Basically, bavaria tastes of nothing so there's no way I'll be touching it

Here's a decent article about the Heineken rebranding and axing of the lower strength "Cold Filtered" brand back in 2003. To be fair though the stronger 5% abv Export version was still available back then. http://www.beer-pages.com/stories/heineken.htm

Lagers in other European countries are mostly around the 5% abv mark to begin with. Whereas in the UK we have a split between the 4%'s and the 5%'s (or most recently 4.8%). Hence the "premium" branding which merely seems to imply a greater strength rather than quality as such.
Decent lager, certainly better than all the crap brewed in luton or the poor imitation of beer I got locally
Great tasting Beer, I buy it all the time

I think Heineken is a quality beer, lovely taste and no additives.
Bavaria is a nice drop too, leave the chemic heads to their own devices (and headaches)lol.
Using the £15 off for new customers you can get 69 Bottles for £45.72 collected. Can't argue with that.

Was 91p two weeks ago but still
paid 8 euros for a pint of this in Amsterdam!

I get what you are saying, and totally agree with your comments about Heineken and Peroni (I've travelled or worked in both and they are cheap as chips there and not considered good beer (same with Fosters in Australia - Although I don't think its considered good beer anywhere) - at the same time, wouldn't rate Bavaria either, I've memories of it being the cheap **** kids drank when I was young (all those years ago! ;-) ).

    More alcohol typing?
Really bland. zero distinguishable hop profile, no mouthfeel, thin body. Much better stuff on the shelves of Tesco.
How can this be hot when it's 85p in ALDI?
People complaining, far better than the other budget brands (Carling, Carlsberg, Budweiser etc.) and far cheaper.

Definitely 85p in Aldi, as usual Aldi better value than Tesco with their smoke and mirrors pricing policy.
