Bben Ultra slim laptop N3450 processor @ Bben fulfilled by Amazon for £223

Lots of deals for similar ones from China, like the Jumper Ezbook 3 Pro(I've got one), but this is fulfilled by Amazon, which means you get Amazon customer service, send it back if you don't like, no questions asked.

There is no mention of metal shell, it would appear to be metal on the official website.
The spec is a bit vague, but given you can send it back easily, not really an issue.

N3450 processor
4Gb ram(cannot upgrade)
64gb eMMC(cannot upgrade, but there is a M.2 slot)
14" 1080p screen, says IPS(hopefully!)
M.2 slot seem to mention it, so you can add 2242 128/256/512gb M.2
wifi looks like dual band n (not ac)
Type C usb, its in the description and pictures, (no idea if its video/charging/audio)
8 hour battery life
weight, I'm going to guess at 1.4kg, not the 1.8kg they say

Not bad for extremely light surfing and office work.
I would guess it is the plastic version, there being a fair few out there, weight about 1.7KG.

I cannot see any reason whatsoever for the seller to understate.

Seller is in Guangdong. So being fulfilled by Amazon means we don't have to wait weeks for the kit.
Is that the only advantage? I assume Amazon plays no part in Customer Service?

Seems quite heavy but otherwise looks reasonable.
Never getting another Intel Atom.
Horribly laggy and slow
Looks like the same laptop as the TBao T-Book 4 except that they've given this BBen one only 4GB ram instead of 6GB and a TN screen. Also likely that it won't have a valid version of Windows if comes from the same ODM.

Not worth the £223 IMO, even if Amazon are dealing with the CS. Screen flicker, TN screen, possibly no valid Windows licence, no wireless AC, and other quirks, means that the £175 Jumper 3 Pro still the best deal out of China IMO, followed by the Chuwi Lapbook 12.3 (£210+).

It's metal build and 1.31kg.

Even lighter than that ancient 2GB Cherry Trail laptop you posted the other day which you claimed to be the lightest 14" laptop in the world!

Well it's a Celeron so that's ok...

But seriously you're obviously overworking whatever it was you had before as the latest Atom/Celeron chips are perfectly fine - even the Surface 3 uses one
Is the RAM and SSD upgradeable on this?

Yes it does, that's what I think makes the difference here, you get a laptop with a good spec for the price, a warranty and the ability to easily send it back, I would say this more than covers the price increase of around £40 over ordering from China. You will pay £40 in VAT and handling fee if you order from China and end up paying customs. If it turns out that the screen is TN rather than IPS or a 48mhz, send it back. If its plastic rather than metal, pretty sure it will be metal, send it back. As long as it has dual band wifi, the fact it lacks ac I don't think makes a huge difference.

The RAM can not be upgraded, its built in. The 64gb eMMC is built in but they say there is an M.2 slot where you can add an M.2 SSD, think it will be limited to 2242 size.

At the end of the day you have bought the right to have a look at it and check it out, if you don't like it send it back, no questions asked, its what the consumer rights act gives you!!

If it's really IPS and less than 1.4KG, then this represents an excellent deal given that it comes with Amazon protection - great find

I've just bought an Onda Xiaoma 21 for similar money from China...fingers crossed I don't need to use the 'warranty'

I can't believe they would produce a plastic model and call it the same name. There are lots of other things that are easily changed but I don't think the casing is one of them. Most listed on aliexpress are 1.4kg, which is the same weight as the Ezbook 3 Pro, this is a 14" so it maybe 1.5Kg.

They have said to contact customer support if its not activated, it does suggest that maybe some or all are preloaded but not activated. I guess they will give you a license, either that or they will receive a whole load of returns and a load of negative feedback. Win 10 works without activation so you can try it out anyway, its just a case of going on line and it activates, not a hassle.

If it's really IPS

I suspect it's a TN panel - that is what's stated on the manufacturer's site, on their Ali Express store etc.

Yes, as you said earlier, but the Tbook4 is an IPS according to the review you have linked to earlier, it certainly looks to be the same. The seller has said IPS in the title and description twice, so very easy to return it for free stating not as described. The video also shows the little hatch in the bottom for adding the M.2 drive. The seller has also added green or Tarnish as they describe it on their website, looks really nice along with the Iron grey(dark grey), which is the colour tech tablets seemed so impressed with..

It's pretty easy to source and fit different panels though - there are loads of 'compatible' panels about. So for example, the TechTablets guy got an IPS panel, but then on Gearbest they list the one they sell as TN. Not sure if that's an error or if there are different configurations of this.

I don't really trust Amazon descriptions particularly for something like this as it's often just an admin clerk punching details into a spreadsheet. It might be IPS....or it might not! I'd rather go with the description on the manufacturers own website rather than a website like Amazon's...

Don't suppose it matters at the end of the day as you can user Amazon's returns policy, but I'd be reluctant to buy this direct without knowing 100% the type of panel used.

You can always order one and find out ;-) It would be free to send back if its not IPS.

As you say, on aliexpress it says TN but they may have upgraded the ones sold on Amazon, certainly make them more appealing.

i would but already got the 3 Pro ver 3 with the average touchpad!
OT, but the forthcoming Chuwi Lapbook Air looks very good. Nice spec. Just depends what price they sell it for.

My experience of Chuwi is not great - brilliant devices so long as you know someone who can compile a replacement rom / find a driver that works properly etc.

But that's going to be in a different class altogether, over £300 so not really comparable.

Definitely, another price bracket or two above - probably around the £350 mark would be my guess. I just thought it looked interesting :-)

It's then in a battle with the Xiaomi air, and from what I've seen that is a very nice well made bit of kit, not sure Chuwi or Cube are really up to competing with it.
It is that, Microsoft allowed a Windows install near free on anything at or less than 2GB, 32GB memory.

The 32GB drive limit still stands but with Windows memory intensive, 4GB Ram is now allowed on low end Atom hardware.

There is only the Green left now, I reckon it could look rather nice in the flesh, they call it Tarnish.
