BBQ Charcoal Chimney Starter £4.99 at Lidl

Good quality BBQ charcoal chimney starter, a must for anyone who uses charcoal for their BBQ. This is better than the basic model in B&Q etc that sells for twice the price. Although I don't have one to compare now, it doesn't look too different from the big Weber one that sells for over £20.

Anyway, if you have never used one you'll be amazed at how easy these things are too use and how fast it can get coals up to cooking point. I needed another one at the weekend and built one from two big potato tins (£1each at B&M) but this will do just nicely.

I agree with you, once you've used these you won't believe how easy it is to start a BBQ.

If you guys live near London, Sunday is suppose to be very good weather - Perfect for a BBQ.

Where is it...? I don't see it anywhere on the site.

I found it this morning in-store with a load of other garden type equipment (furniture, parasols etc). It didn't look store specific or end of line as all the stock were bagged and ordered properly as per usual for their twice weekly deals. Have had a look online and can't see it myself :s

Oh OK. And, in case it is store specific, can you tell us where the store is?

they do make starting bbq very easy, I agree once you have used one you won't look back, I paid £20, this is amazing price!! hot.

12.99 delivered online from eBay and 10 is so at homebase so hot.

Makes lighting a BBQ very easy without firelighters, chemical so etc

Bargain price.. i managed to get a webber one last year in the big argos webber sale for 7.99 and ever since i i have wondered how the hell i lived without one!

Just looked in my local Lidl and none in stock.

Got a weber one for £5 a cpl of yrs ago, they are an excellent piece of kit.

I think large Tesco's have these for a fiver also, meant to pick one up but forgot. Will try and get one tomorrow and confirm.

I got one of these from Argos that was posted here a couple of years ago.

Sometimes find it quite hard to get going using the charcoal briquette things, paper burns out before they get going.
Maybe its better with some normal charcoal in the bottom and briquettes on top?

I got that one also and it works fine with charcoal or briquettes. Have you tried scrunching the paper into tight balls? Although the paper burns quite quickly, leave it another 10/15 mins and the whole thing is smoking like a chimney. Bestest invention ever....

I've always thought these look good, although I swear by the hot air gun method for lighting a charcoal BBQ.

just had a looky at that hot gun method looks cool, at least there is another use for it apart from re-flowing the kids ps3

probably not put enough paper in then, just scrunched some up in a donut type shape as shown in some videos, probably needs more.
Here's hoping i get chance to try again on Sunday...

This has gone hot, but is stock confirmed in more than one shop?

Just got two of these from the Alfreton branch (in Derbyshire). Plenty in stock but I did get there at 9.10am. Thanks OP

Sometimes when the charcoal gets a little damp it struggles to light up as easy. Two ways round it. Pour a litle cooking oil over the paper before putting into the starter. It creates a higher heat that helps. Or, get some firelighters. Two of these get any coals going. Get Big K ones, better quality than cheap supermarket ones.

Yep £5 in store for a galvanised steel one, just in case you can't get one from Lidl.

Loads in Tooting branch this morning

donut shape of newspaper round the base of chimney, fill with briquettes, couple of firelighters underneath. Jobs a good 'un

Ready to light bag + blow torch = win!
