Already posted for currency but have noticed that the FairFX currency card is actually a PREPAID MASTERCARD and you can put sterling on it and not foreign currency.

The Prepaid Mastercard is the only card which you can pay your ryanair flights for and avoid credit card charges.

Usually its £9.95 but its free at the moment - you do need to but £10 on it but it can be used anywhere else too.

Quidco gives you £7.50 so if it tracks and you spend the £10 you put on the card anyway its a nice £7.50 for free

I think you'll find there's a FairFX fee for spending in Sterling though. There was a similar prepaid MasterCard thread recently where it was probably covered.

Fear the fee may be 1.5% based on that earlier thread which I just found
hotukdeals.com/ite…=50

That also had some comments about different deals available depending on whether via Quidco or TCB.

Haven't analysed it yet myself as no Ryanair flights in prospect - they shut the convenient routing for me :x

good thinkin

thats great but how do i get quidco

Free card (normally £9.95) subject to minimum initial load of £500

Apparently another way around it is to buy Ryanair gift vouchers.
You pay a £5 fee to do so, but if you're booking 4 return flights it sure as hell beats paying the "card fee" 8 times!

fine by me £1.50 is about 95% cheaper than with visa

ive just pulled one of these out of my wallet forgot i had it

You may find some more useful information here where this Fairfx card has also been discussed :

Good deal-extra heat from me plus also to point out that FairFX have some of the best exchange rates which often beat the pants off Royal Mail......which despite being zero comms offer some of the poorest exchange rates around

I have that ! free to top up and free to use !!
I did a search on this kind of cards and no one pre paid mastercard is better that this card from phone4u!

How do you know? Have you had the card for some time? Your £9.95 fee might be deducted later.

Do you know how long it takes for online top-ups to appear on the card?

You are buying: £10.00 Pounds Sterling on a new FairFX Currency Card
at the FairFX Rate of £1 = £1.0000
Which costs: £10.00
New Currency Card: Free
(special referred price)
Total: £10.00 Pounds Sterling

That is why. :whistling:

another way to beat the charge,.......... dont use Ruinair

Been contemplating to get one of these and i think now i will order one.

Hot from me. I thought that I had beaten the Ryanair charges when I had applied for an Electron card!

The Escape card is good in that it has no fees for use and loading, but it does cost £10 to get one. The FairFX card is free to obtain and gives cashback, but does charge for use. So the Escape card is only cheaper after you've spend about £500 on the card.

Cheaper still is the Neteller Net+ card, which has no unavoidable charges as far as I can tell:

public.neteller.com/con…htm

If you're just spending small amounts the FairFX card still wins as long as the cashback tracks.

Thanks

I have just gone through Quidco and paid £10 for a £10 card. Hopefully £7.50 for signing up.

I always use Entropay but have been meaning to ask you guys does it still work (for free) on Ryanair ? the reason I ask is im sure I saw an official announcement from Ryanair a month or so a go saying something like "Ryanair fully supports using Entropay " . When i read that I thought damn so that means they will most likely no longer let it go through as if an electron payment . Anyone bought any tickets recently using Entropay ?

The escape card looks like it costs £9.99 then its free to use. The FairFX doesn't cost anything at the moment (the £10 is created back on the card).

I bought the Fairfx card at about 1am, not sure if my quidco tracked as I had multiple browsers open, and there is always the chance that I opened the wrong one whilst checking the terms and conditions.

Key Points to consider are;

The fairfx card is free to obtain. You have to load the card with £10 but you can withdraw the funds from any UK cashpoint free of charge.
You have to put multiples of £10 on the card.
The card is valid for 3 years
As long as you place funds on the card twice during the term, your replacement card will be free.
Transaction fees are 1.5%
If Quidco tracks you should get £7.50!

The old prepaid Entropay visa card won't work now,But they have a prepaid mastercard that does work.I think its on special offer at about £5 to get.

i used fair FX when i was in america, very easy and safe way to carry your money, and BY far the best interest rates on the dollar! Highly recommended!

I see what you did there....

annd.. visa electron is free to use with ryan air! i always use it!

The Neteller Net+ charges 1.75% for debit card top ups, however as you say it is free for bank transfers but will take a few days for the money to appear.

All in all there doesn't seem to be a lot between any of the cards unless you are going to be spending a significant amount of money on them, but I guess most people are booking the £10ish flights.

Too bloody right! We went on holiday with cash and travellers cheques converted to Euro's at £1/euro. Coming back it was 1.2 euro's/pound, which is a ridiculous rate difference! And the actual exchange rate hadn't budged, that was entirely Royal Mail.

This card is free to obtain & free to top up. It charges 1.5% on sterling spend, which is obviously a huge saving on Ryanair charges. It appears to be free to use abroad as well, which is a bonus.

You're missing the point m8 the electron card has/is being fazed out by ryanair for avoiding the card surcharge

Read, You could use Electron, ended early 2010.

The Fairfx card says you can make internet purchases for free, its pos and cashpoint that attracts a fee....so great for Ryanair only, also I already have mine and it didnt charge the fee, it clearly stated this has been waived as long as you put £10 on it.

edit, its only the euro card that doesn't charge for online, the sterling is called "anytime" and charges 1.5%

Sorry removed my post as just checked with the Ryanair site and they charge for electron now, waste of the missus time getting one a few months back :x
