why would anyone pay this amount for a pair of headphones, these a purely a fashion accessory.

If it improves the sounds quality yes indeed!

Except it doesn't Beats don't make good headphones, they make fashion accessories that scream "mug me" if you wear them in public. People seem to think Beats offer good sound quality due to the sheer amount of distorted bass they can produce - doesn't make them any good mind just a tonne of bass and nothing else.

These are a much better buy for almost half the price

Still, good price if you are after a pair.

Buy a pair of Shure headphones for less than half the price.

The AKG K551 for £60 are so much better than these.

I own both Beats & AKG's, AKG's are by superior sound, quality and half the price. Beats are for those who feel the need to scream 'look at me, look at me' but if you like base heavy cans these are up your street.

Everyone voting cold because of the brand not the price

If people want beats then it's a good deal ...

I agree, If they're what your looking for then its a good deal

Ludicrous to suggest that the AKGs are a suitable alternative to these. They are reference headphones and not exactly portable. Can you imagine walking down the street with reference head phones on?

These headphones will sound find enough and they do look good. I don't want a pair, but this deal will now go unnoticed to the people that do. Bit of a shame really.

maximoshark

They weigh 300g so most people should be able to move about with them on. Do you have an unusually small head or weak neck?

Another deal voted cold because of brand.....

Try sending your kid to school in Shure or AKG when Beats are all the rage.....

It may be fashion but please....vote on the deal and not your opinion on whether you would buy.

HDUK mods, about time cold votes are only accepted with links to a CHEAPER offer, stop the brand snobbery?!

I got my wife a set for christmas she always wanted them im a sennheiser man myself and always slagged these off but i was really surprised and impressed by these for the purpose of listening to music they have a nice tight fit and feel good and sound is pretty damn good to they dont have the higher end precision of the sennheiser but overall better than a lot of headphones ive tried and tested over the years.

I agree that Beats are very weak when it comes to audio quality, though they do work OK for certain musical genres. I don't think audio quality is what they are about though.

Many people are listening to low bit rate MP3 tracks (for instance if you add tracks to iTunes music library with default settings the audio quality you get is abominable and no headphones are ever going to improve it). So, Beats or Grados, AKGs are all equal for that. For those kind of listeners it is all about the style and image (as seen by their peers). These are on ear fit after all, never meant to be any good.

But if you change your encoding to a lossless format, or use Spotify streaming then these Beats headphones shortcomings will very quickly become apparent.

However, this is not a review site, OP has found a good price for this product. Therefore deal is hot. Heat added.

10 quid cheaper here if colour isn't important. personally I don't see the appeal, the TV adverts I've seen just makes the person wearing them look like a complete tool. clearly a fashion accessory for someone who wears frameless glasses...

Thanks Op just picked mine up.

One word for you.

Sucker!

These bass heavy comments are really annoying on every beats thread...its widely known that was problem for the first generation of beats headphones...beats 2.0 vastly improves on it and caters to good sound for a wide range of music. Try it on yourself, before jumping on the hate bandwagon.

Yes, I tried them in a store. Terrible sound quality for the price. Junk headphones IMO.

I wonder what music people who say these suck are listening to. Obviously if your a 50 year old listening to classic fm through a pair of bright green headphones then they ain't gonna be any good.

LOL.... yes because the age of the listener and type of music vs headphones colour is what matters X)

Brilliant

Yes, the Solo 2 has improved the sound from terrible to average Quoting from your own listed review above:

The Solo 2 are not at all suited to close or critical listening, though, especially with rock music where bass is not just a rhythmic device (as it is in dance music) but a relatively constant melodic/harmonic presence (i.e. a bass guitar). In these instances, the level to which the low-end is emphasised too obviously unsettling.

Once again showing their portable focus, the Beats Solo 2’s unbalanced bass becomes much less apparent when you’re walking about as the rumbles created by your body’s movements alter your perception of headphones’ low-end. This isn’t something specific to Beats, but the effect is more obvious with sets with greater isolation.

The Beats Solo 2 do match the chunky bass with a clear and smooth treble, though, and the soundstage is rather good for a set of on-ear headphones. Oversized bass does not help headphones get a spacious sound, but stereo imaging and the width of the sound is pretty good here.

Still, there’s another sonic issue that means the Beats Solo 2 are way, way off becoming anything like an audio fan’s bassy headphone. It’s the mid-range – it is very weak compared with the powerful bass and treble, and is very low on texture and detail. This manifests most obviously in vocal tracks, where the actual tone is largely provided by the treble, not the actual mid frequencies that make up the bulk of any (normal) vocal performance. The mids sound flat, uninteresting.

For a less abstract look at what the Solo 2 sound signature actually means for various music types – the more artificial the music, the more likely it is to sound good, or at least OK, through these headphones. The unbalanced sound is all too clearly revealed by traditional instruments whose sound isn’t tightly restricted to certain frequency ranges, and in arrangements that aren’t particularly compartmentalised.

It's a great price for anybody who is wanting them.

Hot.

(That's still how this site works right?)

It's a shame this has been voted cold due to people thinking its cool to hate on Beats. Especially saying that they're just a fashion accessory, it's quite ironic really.

This is actually a really good price and the Solo 2 are a pretty big step up from the HD. Tried them both one after another and these feel and sound better in every way. I actually find these more enjoyable to use than most what you might call more reputable headsets. I wouldn't use for any video editing for work though! These are about £10-20 extra.

Often people will recommend some ridiculous alternatives. Usually huge, ugly and 'reference' headphones. Not really suitable for the gym. People want beats for the bass, the size and they do feel quite well made.

My point is vote on the deal and not to be fashionable

Are these the Solo 2 with Bluetooth? The landing page says Bluetooth but the product description doesn't say anything about it.

Well even though the Beats haters have downvoted this, this is the best price you can currently buy them for. My partners always wanted a pair and got some at the beginning of the week. Best headphones she's had - and trust me she's had a lot of headphones, third pair in the past 6 weeks in fact oO.
Anyway I tried them, wasn't bothered about owning a pair but, ordered some Wednesday from Tesco for £109 for delivery tomorrow. Partner saw this though and I'm now very happily listening to my music :D. And my headphones I got this week which I thought were great are going back! As actually these are better! So thanks to this deal, I have a pair today :).

Heat, amazing price!

I tried the sennheiser momentums, didn't like the flat sound. Tried the beats 2, and it was warm and comfortable, it was easy to listen to.

I'm a 40 something that has ridiculed beats wearers in the past. Now I own a pair, and you know what? I'm loving them

Sound is subjective, you need to try them first before judging. I did, I was surprised.

As a dance trance techno loving music freak tried lots of pairs of headphoes at £50 - £150 price range and was won over by the sound quality of the Beats perfect for that music genre maybe not so if you listen to R&B or Country Western .
Other Headphones recommend and own are Audio-Technica ATH-M50X
