Become a student and get an NUS card for £16 (IT course from GoGroupie £4)

Found 22nd Jan
I posted this a while back but for those of you who missed it, the deal is back!

For those who don't know how to become a student, and become eligible for an NUS/NUS Extra card, here's how in 3 simple steps:

1. Purchase the £4 eCareers course, found on GoGroupie here:

gogroopie.com/dea…rse

2. Activate your voucher instantly on the eCareers website:

e-careers.co.uk/red…her

When scrolling through the T&Cs, only accept the FIRST box, or you will have to wait 7 days before you can access your course.

3. Once your course has been activated and assigned (you will receive an email) navigate to NUS and sign up as a student. Be sure to select eCareers as your place of study, the card itself should cost £12.00.

Link: cards.nusextra.co.uk/?ut…tra

NUS may check your eligibility with eCareers, so make sure your data (Name, DOB etc.) match up!

List of all discounts here:

nus.org.uk/en/…ts/

My favourite NUS Discount:

6 months Free Amazon Prime Student membership followed by £39 a year student membership.

10% off CO-OP food

Type in smart study online, it does not ask for a course reference number.

I wouldn't mind trying out a course.

Is IT short for inter?

You can of course lie and not take up a course.

for the sake of £4 I think its better to actually legally become an eligible student and avoid fraud. Verying your information is something they can do

I agree; what some people will do to try and save themselves £4. Surely if they are then going to buy a NUS card they will easily make up the £4. I guess they would rather just bend the system until it breaks - for everyone!

when you initially registered it would have asked your course duration, If the course you previously signed up with is expiring as well as the card, then you will have to buy another course, if it hasn't you can just go here cards.nusextra.co.uk/?ut…tra , enter your email, sign in and renew.
Not sure if this still works but was very popular at the time of listing.

Mine runs out in feb too and reading your post i went through the link provided and tried renewing the card... Interestingly, i could modify the end date of the course that i had previously marked as ending feb 2018... However did not renew it by completing payment as i wasn't certain if they would check with ecareers about the course validity... Anyone knows if they check the course validity ? If not, then buying a course can be avoided..

Where did you get the list of discounts? I haven't seen any Amazon discount for years

I'm also sure there is no need to pay for a course to get accepted on NUS
Simple process. Easy to do, and huge savings to be made. Superdrug just had a few days at 20% (normally 10%), just in time for the post Christmas clearance sales. Also 10% off at Co-op. Loads more, listed on the NUS extra site.

The card also has an International Student Identity Card (ISIC) on the back, excellent for discounts abroad, but valid for one year, regardless of weather you get a 1 or 3 year NUS card.

There are also some useful courses available, if you actually want to study as well!!!

I wasn't saying that you should make up the details. There are plenty of free courses out there that are still eligible I think. I remember reading that Shaw no longer works, but there are a few others.

Besides, this £4 course makes you no more a legal student than any of those free courses. Legally, you may as well just make up details for all the good this will do you if they actually decide to verify your eligibility.
just tried this and my voucher code is invalid (perhaps i need to wait a few hours) otherwise they have provided a email address i need to contact

I renewed mine a couple of weeks ago, and hit Birkdale school by mistake and it went straight to payment stage...

Annoyingly there is no NUS discount with Spotify now and used to be the only reason I had one

The NUS decides who gets these cards - you don't even have to be a student, as an academic I picked up a four year one - once it's issued, nobody checks eligibility.

yeah tried that, also tried direct from the voucher but no joy its always me that this happens too. ive sent them a message,

Totally agree, they're all about the money, so it doesn't matter if you're actually a student, buy a £4 course, start a free course, or make up your own details. I was replying to a previous comment about this £4 course making you a legally entitled student, when it doesn't.

Paying £4 for the course does make you a legal student, check here on the e-careers site e-careers.co.uk/int…rds Attempting to buy without a course is fraud and you could be caught out whilst they check, for the sake of £4, its worth just buying the course and being legally entitled.

Did this on Thursday, card arrived today and signed up for student prime last Friday, they accept a screenshot of the app with photo and expiry date.

Yes, I did just a few days ago.
You just need to email a copy of your NUS extra card.
i followed the above instructions.. had to use the email link for eCareers....then screenshotted the nus extra app and 10 minutes later got verified for amazon prime.. all sorted.

I'm afraid it doesn't. I'll leave that for you to find out why, as it doesn't really matter to me. Maybe start by reading the whole of that page.

This is in no way better than using a free course to sign up. Both of which are only a little better than making up the details.

I can't criticise as I've used paid and free courses to get NUS before, but I'm under no illusion that I'm legally a student.

Renewed mine without changing anything, my course ended last year sometime, got my new card a few days ago
I renew for just a year at a time as I tend to get most benefit from the International Student Identity Card (ISIC). Made significant savings in Malta and Croatia last year.
