Pity it is only London, would be very tempted if it was in my area too. Good deal for Londoners

I'm not saying this is one of the companies, but there was a feature on a consumer television programme recently (Watchdog?) where companies offered knocked down prices for a professional clean only to visit you and give a hard sell for a more expensive clean on arrival. When declined, the advertised professional clean wasn't up to scratch, and wasn't really worth the knocked down price. Just a heads up in case!

Very tempting indeed.

I'm pretty sure the woman in the picture once gave me an enema for a fiver!

hmm, i run a professional cleaning franchise, and that 'original' price seems very dubious to me, especially for the quoted size of property the price applies to.

our normal rate for a 2 hour clean on a property that size would most likely be around the 45-50 quid mark, so i can't imagine any company would ever charge double that and still expect to get any custom lol

We pay our cleaner £10 an hour.
this "deal" is £29 for 2 hours.

Rubbish "deal"

I would vote cold, but Andywedge would only give me another warning for voting a Mod deal cold.

Just book directly with FastKlean.
£8.50 an hour.
Therefore this 2 hour deal with cost £17

Voted cold. Yay ... so shoot me.

I watched that one too!
I think there was another home clean Groupon a month or two ago - anyone tried that one?

Most domestic cleaners will get round a two bedroom house in a couple of hours for no more than £7.50 an hour. Doesn't sound like a deal to me.

At least read the topic properly before you slate it, you get 2 cleaners for 2 hours which would come to £34, so it is a deal. Bang

Is that London prices or elsewhere?
Not sure if there is / should be a difference, but if living costs is anything to go by...

This deal is for 2 cleaners for 2 hours, not too bad if you are in London area

You beat me to it (_;)

IT's Groupon - they don't offer great value unless you have really yellow teeth and the world's worst skin. All they ever offer is teeth whitening and microdermabrasion. Cold.

Agency cleaners in London get paid £6-6.50 an hour. So if you find someone and employ them directly at £7.50 an hour they should be happy.

I've used both, agency cleaners and direct staff. Must admit that finding and interviewing a cleaner is hassle, but once you have a good one then the reliability of having the same person week in week out for years is priceless. With agencies you end up with a different cleaner every week, they all work differently and not all of them are good.

I looked at this deal myself.
Thought it was fairly reasonable for £29
Works out at £7.25 an hour which is a fair rate for a cleaner (the £99 is not near realistic)

Anyone recommend a cleaner in/near SW2?

Would iy not be cheaper to just get a wife.

My wife fell for this one before Christmas, when she told me about it I thought a team of cleaners were coming in to give the whole place an overhaul then some grumpy lady turned up, told me she wouldn't clean the oven and did a pretty awful job for 3 hours. I'd say depending on where you live London prices are around £9.00 an hour for a decent cleaner (that will do the oven), my Wife and I won't use Groupon again as it's not a deal - if they charge £95 for cleaning the house for three hours there are some serious mugs out there.

you obviously aren't married!!!

Groupon = cold....

simples

I would rather do it myself, I am not the best at cleaning but this enables me to work part-time and have more time at home, plus we only run one car, have more time to bargain shop etc. Worked full-time, paid cleaners, childcare 2nd car etc, not worth it

Did you not see the TV program about these offers?

They say there's a very fine line between bravery and stupidity. I reckon you might be teetering on the edge with that one

Oh how little you know!

I made £130 today cleaning for around 7 hours, if you pay a cleaner £7.50 then you'll get a sloppy job. Anyone can flick a duster in slow motion for 2 hours and steal your jewellery.

Bear in mind the travelling (time) costs for this service and the fact it's a not a regular client that you have an allocated time slot for, but I would imagine £99 is still pretty high even for London. I'd charge around £55 and I don't need to offer deals like this to get new clients.

Good luck to you but £18 an hour for domestic cleaning is just plain greedy. £10 is about the maximum rate for a good cleaner.

I need a decent cleaner on the Wirral..

Anyone??

You are just showing your ignorance of the service industry here, not all cleaners are the same. Do you really think someone who dusts around a two up two down is going to be paying the same care and attention as someone who makes a millionaire's bathroom look immaculate?
For one thing a franchise cleaner won't step foot outside town, never mind out to some rural barn.

People have different standards, if you want a perfect job then expect to pay the going rate for that work. I think it's interesting that at one time half my clients were German, perhaps they don't have quite the same condescending attitude of the English towards this type of work.
Actually my top rate is around £35/hour, so maybe you should rethink your idea of what a cleaner is worth?

Edited by: "horsey" 7th Jan 2011

Lot failing to read the description. It says 2 cleaners for 2 hours so it is a good deal. Yes the original price is inflated but then that's almost always the case when something is advertised as reduced.
