Should be decent deals coming up from Leeds with jet2 around £200 return for Christmas shopper.
Flying transatlantic with a European budget airline must be horrific.

Which is a real shame when you think about it.
Their planes are simply not up for this journey. It’s not just the flight duration, coming home it is a night flight - good luck sleeping. You don’t get any food included and can’t even pre-book on the way home, no free drinks, no entertainment at all. Norwegian or Thomas Cook for cheap flights to JFK though even BA and Virgin have some decent economy fares now if you can make do with hand baggage only

I guess hot if you want to fly from Belfast
Edited by: "mrme" 28th Oct 2018
Plenty of airlines using 757s for transatlantic services including some of the legacy US carriers an Aer Lingus.

Not my idea of fun, but at the price it's competitive with the Ultra Low cost carriers and Belfast is a much more convenient stop than Iceland etc (Although you will have to allow time to collect your baggage and re-check it)

Unfortunately with no other NY flights from Belfast (Norwegian stopped flights from end Oct) we can't be to choosy unless we do Dublin-NYC or pay a fortune for luggage on flights to London etc.We went to Miami with BA last year and plane was ancient. The seats on a DC9 would have been more comfy lol

Even a 3 hour flight is physical and mental torture on such small planes as a tall person, can't even imagine how bad a 7 hour flight would be.. Sometimes paying more is worth the extra comfort and i'm a penny pincher!

Nothing to do with the size of the plane. A 757 is perfectly fine for transatlantic.
If there’s an issue it is with seat pitch and seat quality.

See seatguru.com/air…php for actual info. Doesn’t seem too bad.
For those interested. Compare with BA 747 seatguru.com/air…php
So as far as cabin is concern I’ll always take the smaller plane with same pitch.
Less people is a good thing

Flew on a BA jumbo to Miami last year (wasn't a cheap flight) and was probably one of the most uncomfortable planes I've ever flew on.My brothers 6'4 and his advice is to book the best seat on the cheapest flight. He's flownall over the world forwork with few issues.

That has the same pitch as Ryanair planes..

Download something on your phone. Get a meal deal just before boarding flight. Job done
Geez. You'd have thought someone, somewhere would have had the wit to get this sorted by now. Only positive thing I can say is I've seen worse in other europeanairports.

Absolutely fine but by the time you’ve spent a fortune on food at the airport and got your back seen to after the flight you might as well travel in a cabin designed for long haul. It isn’t so much to do with the aircraft, it’s how it’s configured and those seats are good for 4 hours maximum. All personal choice

I fly from Belfast or Dublin every time I go to America. I tend to wait until sales and usually get my return flights with Virgin for £350. I'd pay the extra £150 all the time for the comfort, the free drinks, movies and the meals, well worth the money to me, never mind the brilliant customer service. Wouldn't dare fly on Jet2 lol but it's definitely a bargain, especially if people have never been before.
Some of us do have to fly from here by the way, as we live here though :P

No, I just didn't see your reply until this morning.

Also if you don't have the money to fly to New York properly then you're probably not going to have the kind of money needed to stay in one of the most expensive cities in the world. The last time I was in NYC, the Manhattan hotel rates were higher than those in Central London and Hong Kong.

There is such a thing as visiting family or staying in hostels. We did Australia 3years ago staying in hostels (we're let's say well over 40) and had a ball.If we're going to get in to "flying properly" then surely you mean 1st class?Whichbegs the question to why you're on HUKD

I get what your saying. However with the horrendous exchange rate at moment £150 is an awful lot for a slightly more comfy seat, drinks and a meal. Also with NYC your only choices are flying from Dublin(2hr drive) or flying from England at least £60pp for luggage alone never mind the cost of Belfast-Heathrow etc flight

When you have had two back surgeries £150 is worth it, trust me lol. Even before that though, I still wouldn't go with Jet2! If it suits people great, just worth not being cramped, sore and bored all through the flight for me (I travel solo most of the time too so don't sleep on planes).

Also, Dublin literally costs less than £20 return, with more choice, have you ever flown from the International? It's a horrendous airport, Dublin all the way if I can, always includes your link flights via London.

Yes I've flew from International more times than I can count. However I must be one of the lucky ones,I've only had one bad experience flying from BFS and that was the day a cafe at Rome FCO went on fire and closed arrivals. As all flights in and out of FCO bar transatlantic were cancelled that day I had no issue with BFS.I must have had the most arrogant, nasty, horrid security guard going through my hand luggage last time we flew from Dublin. Was so bad I phoned to complain the moment we set down in Vancouver. Was so angry after flight I totally forgot the 8hr time difference lo
