£2.19 cheapest shipping, also i think these are £1.99 in woolworths but dont quote me on that.

EDIT: the woolworths price i mentioned was for a woolworths own brand type

should this be eddited to include postage?

Very good price for Belkin.

Is it me or is this rather strangely described?

Shouldn't the wording '6-way extension lead' be in there somewhere?

Would have saved me having to read it twice to be sure.:)

sorry i just cut and pasted it, perhaps a mod could alter it

These are not good at all. The problem is most surge protectors have an led indicating that the surge is working. These don't therefore you will not know whether your devices are still protected by spikes or not.

Wilkinsons do some for £2.99 in store

belkin have said it will no longer supply power to the devices once the surge protection has been knocked out

so your point is no longer valid, which is better as most people think the LED has died and don't bother to replace the surge strip

Wrong!

They still supply power once the (guaranteed to fail in 18 month fuse) blows out of these Belkins.

Belkin customer service is about as bad as it gets - they will think of every excuse in the book not to pay for your damaged equipment.

It's better than a no-name brand or dodgy Chinese power strip, and pretty darn cheap. I saw this a couple of weeks ago and ordered a couple to push another order over the free shipping, and they work fine.

From the back of an unopened one:

Electrical Rating: 250V/13A/50Hz/3250W Total Capacity
Maximum Spike Current: 13,000 Amps
Maximum Energy Dissipation: 476 Joules
Maximum Spike Voltage: 6,000 Volts
Response Time:
Yeah, don't hold one of these up to a lightning strike as a shield, but otherwise it's a 6 way strip that looks okay by a brand name manufacturer.

Anyway, surely the fuse in this device, once broken, would mean that no power could get through. That's what fuses do - break to save connected equipment. There's no alternative route around the fuse. Either the fuse is broken or it's not.

Agree with PROvider on Belkins customer service. Anytime ive had dealings with them i found myself trying to get some person in India to pronounce my name properly. P-A-U-L. Not difficult is it really? Plus ask them a question which isnt on their card and then theyre really stumped!
BUT, these units are actually quite good (i worked for an electrical test equipment and filter company). Sure nothing will protect against a direct lightning strike, but thats not the point of these strips. They are called SURGE protectors for a reason. They protect against SURGES. The type that everyday bombard your sensitive equipment and dramatically shorten their lifespan. Typical surges / spikes can be as much as 20%!! And as manufacturers nearly always use the cheapest transformers / power supplies in their equipment, any non surge protected equipment will die far earlier.
Put simply, these are worth it simply for the better build quality than some cheap supermarket brand. You`ll never see the benefit, but trust me, it is there in longer equipment life. Use these on all Audio Visual equipment to protect the sensitive components, and especially on all computer equipment, if nothing else than to protect your data!
