don't know why people ask q's like this! Why don't you just google it FFS? Do you want people to spoon feed you everything?

I've heard a scurrilous rumour that if you type 'crossover cable' into a search engine of your choice you'll get an answer quicker than you can type 'whats this one do then' into HotUKDeals - could be a load of nonsense though Unless, of course, you're planning to enlist the good people of HotUKDeals to do all the donkey work for you - I mean, we just sit around waiting to answer questions which could be easily answered by a search engine. D'oh! I've wasted too much time on this reply already

Oh - you're playing with fire using abbreviations - next thing you know, people will want to know what FFS means, FFS

i'm only seven years old next week my mum spoon feeds me sometimes:whistling:

FFS = far faster searching? ;-P

Cable price - bargain for a cross over cable.
I bought one (on company expenses (wasn't gonna pay £21 from PCW at the time)) about 8 years ago and its still doing good

Ok, read that and there are patch Cat 5's and crossover Cat 5's - looking at the picture of this is says both, so will it do both things?

In the world of GE interfaces and auto-X, crossovers are pretty pointless. Still fairly useful for those with old kit though.

A quid isn't bad for a 6m cable really, but I make my own from a reel of cable

Anyone know if this will be single strand CAT 5e or Multistrand,
(Looking chop off the plugs and use the wire for projects)

@ £1 for 6m you can't go wrong.. - VOTED HOT.

This is an excellent price for a cable of this length. This will almost certainly be below cost.

Buy it!

Yeah go easy on people for asking questions. You can't take it for granted that everyone knows everything.

my main pc connects to internet with wifi usb dongle. Can i connect my xbox using this crossover cable to my main pc n use it as internet connection? Never tried lookin at the xbox settings so dont know if will work.

Tsk ! I spin my own wire from my own ore that I have mined, Then I braid the insulation from recovered car tires - beautiful workmanship!

Please dont flame me as I have googled and I am not sure, if I was wanting to connect my laptop to ps3 without going through the router to speed up my media server is this cable what I need or do I need a cross over?

crossover cable: (node to node)
* computer to computer
* computer to uplink port
* computer to print server
* uplink port to uplink port (hub/switch)
* normal port to normal port (hub/switch)

straight-through cable:

* computer to residential gateway/router
* computer to normal port (hub/switch)
* access point to normal port (hub/switch)
* print server to normal port (hub/switch)
* uplink port to normal port (hub/switch)

hav a logical guess, keep in mind a ps3 is a node and so is ur laptop

A crossover cable will work through MOST switches & routers as they mostly have the intelligence to spot that the wire pairs have been switched over - ie can use regular AND crossover cables to connect nodes to your network. Ideally you check if your switch/router mentions MDI-X - see the Wiki article at en.wikipedia.org/wik…DIX

Meanwhile I know the Poundland in central Bradford still had about 10 on display on Monday 23rd March.

New stock of these in my local today so may be worth a revisit if you are still after one

Super hot, any new PC will let you use this as a regular straight-through cable anyway, so its very cheap, a lot cheaper compared to a regular LAN cable!

don't know why there are no stock of these in my local store, only cables they have is the cheap retractable USB ones & only 1.1 lol.

I'm currently using a Cat5 cable (that came with a cable modem), to connect my ps3 to my laptop (with has a USB modem for adsl broadband) using a LAN setup, so my PS3 can have internet access & connect to PSN via my Laptops connection, will this Crossover cable do more/have more functions? (not quite up to date with all these types of cables)

You don't need a 5e over a 5 cable for what you're doing and if your existing cable works then you're already set up okay.

This would be only be useful to you if (a) it could replace your wireless link with a wired link - as a wire can carry full 10Mbps/100Mbps whereas wireless finds it a lot harder to keep up (b) your kit would accept a crossover cable.
