USB-C to USB-A cable approved by Benson Leung (check him out if you haven't already). He's a Google engineer, and spends his time testing 3rd party USB-C charging cables to see if they are safe. Worryingly, quite a few aren't, and could fry whatever you plug them into. This cable is on his list as being approved. Granted it's not the fastest at data transfer, but if it's just charging you want it for, this is great (supports up to 3A). Currently £12.99 on Amazon.

One plus 3t comes with USB C connector but not electrically only USB 2.0. So lots of things are only usb 2.0 and ok with uncertified cables. It is only where the it is usb 3.1 the cable matters when it is supposed to transfer 100 watts through the cable, it can fry the wire(still not anything else)

Not correct. It's to do with the USB-A connector, and what it can handle.

Here's what Benson wrote:

The cable lies to the phone by telling the phone it's attached to a pure … The cable lies to the phone by telling the phone it's attached to a pure 3A charging path, like the C-to-C cable to the OEM 3A charger that ships with the Nexus 6P/5X. The phone will attempt to draw 3A, but that may damage the weaker device you have the Type-A end of the cable plugged into.



So in essence, you can fry the USB-A port of whatever you plug it into if your device tries to draw too much power.

Cables that are USB-C certified must have 56k ohm resistor in them.
