It's the diameter of the drill bit.

13mm is a standard chuck aperture size. Most likely it was accommodate upto 13mm bits.
Glanced at the picture, and clicked through for a further look.....disappointed as thought it was a pod coffee machine for some reason

but it specifically seperates them:

  • 13mm chuck
  • Drilling capacity: wood 13mm

hence my confusion
Looks like a toy
The one showing as in stock at Edmonton is not available accoridng to the store.

Yes, it's not very powerful: 350 Watts. I have a 550Watt drill and frankly it is underpowered. It will drill softwood sort of OK. Though it will just about drilll small holes in hardwood. Even on the lowest gearing

Ahh..... True. My B&Q one is 16mm (in masonry - not sure how many walls I could lay on the platform) and 50mm for wood and metal, so I think the 12mm drilling depth is correct, although it is likely for masonry (they don't seem to specify for different media) Screwfix have one for £45 with a definite 5cm travel distance in wood, but I can't see how it could possibly only travel 12mm......that's almost like using a hole-punch.

Got a link to a better one?

No, not at this price! I think it will be hard to find anything decent at this price.

I have a very similar cheapo off brand 350w bench drill which I've used for all sorts, it quite happily drills through mild and even stainless steel, even using those cheap stepped bits. Maybe there's an issue with your 550 watter.
Good price, ordered one and wasn't in for the delivery. Arranged to have it delivered the following Tuesday and took time off to wait for it. Didn't arrive so I rang up wickes and cancelled the order.
About a week while I'm out they turn up and throw it over the fence, 7ft drop!!

Drilling capacity in this case usually refers to the largest diameter it will drill in the specified material. 13mm in wood is not particularly impressive...

It is the max cutting capacity, not depth. It's to cater for stepped drills and Forstener bits, which have a smaller diameter mandrel than the cutting diameter. As HerWorseHalf says, 13mm diameter in wood is very poor!
