After seeing some horrible costume jewellery watch get loads of heat at £3200, I thought I'd post what I think is the best watch in the world.

Reasons?
- It has a very clear and visible face
- It's quartz, so tells the time accurately unlike expensive "automatics".
- It has the unbeatable Indiglo back lighting for use at night - far better than any luminous face, and only possibly beaten by tritium capsules
- It has a second hand, and a date, but no other silly features
- And to distinguish it from every other Timex Expedition watch, the glass is sunk slightly behind the metal bezel. That means when you whack it against a brick wall, or scrape it reaching into a engine bay, the glass doesn't get scratched.

I've had one of these for years, but the date has stopped working. I've been searching everywhere for a suitable replacement, but not found one that ticks all the boxes as above. Then after an exhaustive Google image search, I found a review of the exact same watch, and a link to Amazon.com where it's available for just $29.99. Amazon will happily ship to the UK, and take care of all VAT and import duties, giving a total price of £34.50, or £36.50 with expedited delivery, which seems more than fair.

Negatives? It ticks quite loudly. Doesn't bother me, but some reviewers are concerned by it. I can only hear it if I hold it right up to my ear.

Review: here

Don't suppose this will get any heat, but if one person finds a watch which works for them as well as it works for me, I'll be very happy.

Or you buy her a new watch to soften the blow.
on a black strap, I'd probably use it as daily work watch and out drinking, wouldnt be so worried if I got it damaged, though I've an accurist for that

in saying that, its nicer than some of the watches here

BTW heat added

I have this Timex watch and I love it.

As you have said no silly features and is a well made . At this price level its a good choice!
I'd rather have scratch-resistant sapphire glass that sits proud of the metal bezel, otherwise the bezel will get scratched to hell if you do what you do. BTW, wouldn't you take your watch off to go fiddling in the engine bay of your car?

It doesn't seem to. But even if it did it wouldn't bother me much because - unlike scratches on the glass - it would have no effect on usability of the watch. I work in engine bays quite a lot - I'm a car racer. Yes, I could take the watch off, but often that means I'll forget and leave it wherever it is. I find it far more convenient to have one that stays on all the time - showering, swimming, sleeping, working on cars.
I reckon it's a good deal for a functional quartz watch that's, well, although it's not going to survive the abuse that a ubiquitous G-Shock might, a pretty tough cookie.
I like the simplicity of it. Heat added
