sorry, are you saying this Argos one doesn't have any tension in it so would be useless for a garden less than 15m in width/length?

Then what's the protrusion on the bottom? It looks to me like a similar thing that Minky retractable lines have, which you can wrap the line around to give it tension. If that's the case, no need for a separate cleat hook.

This is true, I missed that. Only speaking on experience of the ones I've had. Which I recommend.

No it would be fine, it seems the one pictured has a little shoe to tighten it. Speaking from the experience of the ones I've used you can't lock the retraction halfway through you have to spend the slack til it's ran out and then tension it. If this one is different then somebody correct me.
