I’ve heard nanocell is trash from some forums. Colours and picture aren’t that great. And I think it’s an IPS panel as well, so washed out colours. Definitely go for an OLED or QLED rather than this. But I’m not sure how the new LG 8K Nanocell TVs are like.

kokoroko

Should be Oled Vs LCD. Nanocell is just another fancy name just like Qled,Uled...there is plenty info about Oled Vs LCD on the web. Both have their pros and cons and the choice is up to you (y)

Blofse

Oled vs nanocell - what are people opinions about quality and longevity?

EndlessWaves

For this sort of price you can get the 75" Sony XG95 which doesn't have the extreme resolution panel but has better picture quality in more noticeable aspects. LG's more 2020 LCDs are also rumoured to have improved quite a bit at the top end so while the NANO99 is currently the same price this was eight months ago, if you're specifically after an LG LCD and in no hurry it might be worth waiting.

Teo_Narl

I got this for 330 from AO last week and it arrived today. The TV is just EXCELLENT! Amazing picure (make sure to change the mode from standard to natural and turn the awful automatic motion-correction) and sound, can't ask for more. I was going to buy a separate soundbar but it's not worth it. The sound is so much better than other entry-level TVs.

Got mine from ao for 390 its worth the money I'd buy the same model again if it broke , getting my parents one too.

What I want is the option for the TV not to upscale SD to 8k and just show a picture in the middle of the TV. I reckon on a 65" the SD picture would be less than 7" in size.

tony.hogarth

I was expecting to get more depth of field, as the first time I saw a proper 4k video it almost looked 3D but I think 8k will only be of use for projectors and VR.

MrHappy37

We did the same last week in currys. We were disappointed that the picture looked no better than a 4k one. Thought that maybe it was just set up wrong, but possibly not though it seems.

tony.hogarth

Had a look at an 8k file playing on a 75 Inch 8k TV in PC World last week. Surprisinly to me I have to say the difference between it and a 4k file playing on my 65 Inch 4k were barely noticeable. I think in regard to value for money the visual experience has more or less peaked at 4k unless you're going up to a 200 inch image.

antonssuraks

8k tv without content,5g phones without 5g coverage, game streaming without proper broadband. Thats getting ridiculous :D

Obviously you have not seen current QLEDs when you make references to non issues like viewing angles. At least there is no risk of a deteriorating picture over time with QLED. OLED from LG is end of life. The world's best displays are LED based, QLED already outsells OLED, the world's largest manufacturers like Huawei are moving to Quantum Dot based screens and Samsung are launching QD based hybrid OLED screens to address to brightness and burn in issues that can't be fixed with the LG ones.

ayeworld

I obviously have seen them. Brightness doesn't mean better picture quality ask a AV specialist. I use mine to watch 4k bluray and I don't play games so that's irrelevant. If you think paying over £2000 for a tv is reasonable then go for it, I certainly don't. It's your opinion and that's mine.

Tony_DR

Overall ! = HDR specifically. I buy my Tv's specifically for watching HDR content and gaming. You obviously havnt seen the latest QLEDs. They fixed the viewing angle issues. And the picture quality isn't even close on OLED compared to QLED for HDR viewing. QLED has way higher peak brightness, a wider colour gamut, and better detail in very dark picture areas. Particularly on the 2019 8K QLEDs which are the current reference HDR TVs for a reasonable price imo. And above those you have Sony Crystal and Samsung The Wall which are also LED based but not cheap.

ayeworld

If you say so. (annoyed) I've always bought Samsung, but I prefer LG's Oled now. The picture quality is superior in every way, with superior viewing angles.I also prefer the slicker software, design, build and apps. Based on the last few years of CNET's side-by-side comparison reviews, LG's OLED TVs have all delivered better overall image quality than Samsung QLED TVs https://www-cnet-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.cnet.com/google-amp/news/qled-vs-oled-samsung-tv-and-lg-tv-2019-comparison/?amp_js_v=a2&amp_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQEKAFwAQ%3D%3D#aoh=15686583230296&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnet.com%2Fnews%2Fqled-vs-oled-samsung-tv-and-lg-tv-2019-comparison%2F

Tony_DR

Yes they do. These are token mitigations along with firmware changes that reduce the already poor peak brightness of OLED that do little to address the fundamental problem that LG OLED panels still suffer from burn in. Testing has found that this is still an issue with the latest 2019 panels. Thats largely why QLED outsells all OLED panel makers combined and LG OLED is an end of life technology: rtings.com/tv/learn/real-life-oled-burn-in-test zdnet.com/article/fear-and-trembling-lg-display-faces-the-axe-for-oled-tv-burn-in-and-market-squeeze/

welshblob

But what about the nits ;-)

EndlessWaves

That's correct, the 55" KS7000 was around £1200 this time last year. It's worth pointing out that this is also an IPS-type panel which is unsual for Samsung as most of their models are VA. Yeah, it'll accept a 10-bit HDR signal but it doesn't have local dimming or anything so it won't reproduce much of it. You should double the budget if that's important to you.

nickmax

Each to his own on the warranty, however personally I never understood the point on buying the warranty on lower end (ie cheaper) TVs as you are effectively paying 12% on top of the TV price which is a lot when you already have the standard 1 year for free and the additional protection under EU law. I can see the sense when spending £1000 or more but then the 70 quid is a much smaller percentage of the overall price and you could justify the cost then.

jim881

Mine work fine. Updated yesterday and got TV plus

pete_l

Forget anything about running apps on this. The Samsung (different model) we bought 6 months ago has had PUSH updates that have rendered all the apps it came with useless.
