Just been browsing through the Sainsbury's site to see if there's any cheap items I could add to my Stella order to push it above the £40 mark for cheap delivery and I came across this.

It's Sainsbury's Basics curry sauce. OK it's not Patak's or Uncle Ben's but it's a big jar and probably no worse than the stuff your local chippy serves up.

So if you're on a budget, or waiting for payday, for just 9p what more can you ask for?

You imply that Patak's & Uncle Ben's are good ;-)

Got to be worth 9p as a chip dipper - hot (vote)

i bet even the indians can't buy curry sauce for 9p

what can you buy for 9p???
OK 9 penny chews

9p... I'd be really wary about putting it in my mouth...

Asda curry sauce is only 5p

I have had the ASDA stuff for 6p, its like the curry sauce you get from chip shops.

Its ok with chips etc, but i wouldn't use it to make a proper curry.

Its worth that price for the jar alone

I bet the jar costs more than 9p haha

I've made curries with this loads of times and am always asked for the recipe!
Hope it's not just politeness!

But would you pay the bill if they served this in your local indian.

These are actually realy nice if used as a simple base sauce. I use pataks curry paste to coat the meat, then use this to bulk it out to a full curry - easy, and cheap!

Tesco's in a tin is 4p ;-)

It's been that price for ages mate, at least 6 months :-)

Last time I looked it had gone up to 12p, glad it's gone back down again but the advantage of the Sainsbury one is the jar - perfect for marmalade

stuff probably looks better on the way out...............

*YAWN*

Been this price for so long, I vote cold.

This is an average price, not a deal, its 4p for a tin in tesco (admitly smaller) and its also 5p in asda for a jar the same size as sainsburys.

I've had Morrisons and Asda currys, never had Sainsbury's. Will try it, thanks

I have tried this - its ok - like previous posters have stated its like chippy curry sauce. Edible, acceptable but not mind blowing.

You could of course add additional garlic, chillies etc to take in the direction you like

It looks like splurt of the bad kind.

voted cold, getting bored of this being posted every few months.
the shower gel well be posted again soon by someone, then maybe the tortilla chips lol.

It was 4p.

That said - its surprisingly good for the money - especially if you have a few bits to throw in yerself.

If your bored then why bother posting. Why not skip it?

Not everyone see's everything when its first posted.

YUp 4p from Tesco but a tin rather than a jar if that makes any difference to anyone, not tried it yet but the 25p tin of sweet and sour from Tesco was very nice and tasted much like the Homepride alternative certainly worth the money just watch out for the suger content!!

Hot hot

LMAO.......that is shocking....after all the production and transportation costs how do they manage to do it for a whopping 9 pence?! I wouldn't touch it personally because there's just no beating fresh ingredients when it comes to making any dish Indian or not. That being said though curry sauce n chips is yum.

Nice on microwaved noodles

this is nice but i think the tesco one(4p) in the tin is not for me

so its this or the asda one are both ok
heat and rep thanks for the post

Forgot to mention Sainsbury's have also got noodles for 9p aswell! Chicken ones and curry flavoured ones...................

These have always been 9p. I brought a jar over a year ago and it tastes like crap.

this must have loads of dodgy ingredients in it...it's a simple recipe imo, ok this is gonna b wierd but heres how i do it. in some oil add garlic and ginger, when slightly brown add your onions and caramelise..throw in a tin of tomatoes and add fresh or powdered chilli, corrainder powder, curcuma plus some salt and pepper. now add meat or veg and simmer... 5mins b4 finishing up throw in a munch of fresh chopped coriander...done!

can someone tell me something good about this item besides it being 9p, sorry but i wouldn't touch this weird diarrhea looking substance even with a barge pole, it's 9p for a reason. If your still oblivious to why its 9p, then watch a dvd called "food inc"

As said above, this has been posted before and with similar comments following it. With this and other similar products the price fluctuates on an almost weekly basis - I have seen this for as low as 4p and as high as 28p - not earth shattering but on a percentage basis a huge change each time.

On the content, it is ok as a starter sauce to add other things to which is what we do as the kids will eat this sauce and we can add tomatoes, curry powder, garlic etc to it to alter the taste a bit.

Its 9p because its watered down, the ingredients are vegetables and flavouring theres not much that can go wrong.

I prefer these 9p jars over the more expensive sauces which i find too hot and spicy.

4p 4p anyone got one for 3p. come onnnnnnnnnnn lol

Why is this a hot deal? It's always 9p and was once selling at 4p
