Be careful with those 'Serious' bikes I had an email flyer with a so called deal for a £250 mountain bike bargain but the bike while having reasonable components in other areas had some utterly junk hybrid quality forks not off-road yet was fitted to a mountain bike. The stanchions were only 25.4mm thick the same thickness as handlebars. They claimed and original price of £500 for this bike with these junk forks. Not only a con but quite dangerous in my opinion. Maybe the bike was designed just to get you going until you upgraded to some decent forks of your choice but this definitely wasn't made clear in the description or maybe the rider weight limits are quite low to allow for such weak forks but again not made clear. From what is written above regarding customer service I would be very wary of buying a Serious bike from bikester. I bought tyres previously from them, not much to go wrong there.

RRP obviously a joke. For £500 I'd expect carbin forks. Looks nice

Do not buy from this seller. I bought an electric bike one year ago and when the rear wheel went wrong, they blamed me. They don't honour the warranty. I sent the case to the manufacturer, Haibike, and they sent me a new wheel for free, given the special circumstances of the case. Anyway this is the worst place to buy a bike. Special thanks for Winora\Haibike they really know how to treat their customers.

Cube Attention MTB Hardtail Grey 2018 Model £599.20 Delivered W/Code @ Bikester (In black or white)
Looks to be a really decent price for the 2018 model. I've seen the 2017 at this price recently, but not this one. The code gives 20% off all Cube bikes over £699, so you might f… Read more

I've seen some good deals on tyres recently from bikester but can't see this as much of a bargain looking at the components fitted. Looks like a fairly generic Chinese frame with mid level components. The front suspension looks pretty low end coil design. I think the same money could get you an air shock elsewhere. Not a bad price but not really a huge bargain. I guess one for those happy to pay extra to have a German brand on their Chinese bike. I've only had a fleeting look elsewhere but even after a quick look this bike appears much better. Not even discounted currently so with Halfords roller coaster pricing just have to wait a week or so. Looks like the Cube has limited frame sizes available too.

also works on already discounted bike, might be a bargain out there.

You could get a alcatel 3.5 screen android mobile phone for sub £20 with GPS I think, powerbanks at poundland and you could get one of those free sims from three that give you 200MB of data for nothing every month. You could be up and running with gps, constant internet connection etc for very little money. A bit of customisation and settings adjustment might work very well to optimise it towards being a cycle computer/gps. However its being able to view the screen I think that would be the problem. Might need an anti-glare filter and perhaps an app that changes the output of the display, to make it easier to see in sunlight, exceptionally high contrast black/white etc. I think getting a phone with a high brightness display would be the ideal solution. Unsure what the best equipment would be but the Garmin solution seems overly expensive.

Battery life primarily, these last much longer than a cheap phone would, much smaller/lighter to mount on your bike too

Can someone explain why on earth you'd pay £184 (!!) for this instead of using a cheap android device for a fraction of the price?

Think so. Look Germany based. Trustpilot score of 8.3 but not bought from them myself yet. Not a Wiggle/CRC score but better than Halfords/Evans Cycles.

What you're thoughts on this bike, and do you know of anything similar spec that's same or better for same price?

Yep, delivered by ups courier, China then stuck in a gearbest German warehouse for 6 week's. I claimed PayPal payment back, 2 weeks later was delivered. Gb never asked for the money! It was 200 pounds back then! Thanks again for you're advice (y)

Any mods invalidate warranty and as for the stresses I think that would depend on the bike design. Many e-bikes with front hub motors don't seem to have any reinforcing there, they look pretty typical for that type of bike. I personally can't see it being a problem but I guess it depends on how you use it. If you don't pedal and try to get the motor to pull you up a 3:1 gradient I can see the forks failing but in normal use with the cyclist still pedalling I can't see much problem. There is a difference between an e-bike and a e-mountain bike though, the latter is designed around stronger components and probably more likely to have a mid-mount bottom bracket type motor. If your forks fail just refit your conventional wheel before returning it to store for warranty work ;) (embarrassed) Really can't see the forks failing though. The wheel itself seems by far the weakest link and most likely to fail. Did it get through customs without additional charges? Just curious.

I already have it. i was informed by halfords and go outdoors, that they don't recommend using with any bike,as it can put stress on bike plus would invalidate warranty!

Thats fine for any geared bike but is illegal I believe in UK as needs to be setup for pedal assist and can't see that mentioned in the description. It could be a throttle control. Also the battery capacity is incredibly low and the price to ship from Europe (spain) is getting on £290. If you ship from China you will likely incure higher VAT and import charges that could take it over £300. I don't know what your existing bike is and how good but might be better to sell that and buy something like this; May not be much different in price in real terms and you'll have a warranty with UK support.
