It's not a bad router if I'm honest but not used the 7800 so wouldn't know, tbh

If being used for VDSL, does it do G.Vector and G.INP? (Now rather important in the UK.)

Vectoring yes, G.INP - not yet (I don't think).

I bought via Flubit for £56.85.

It's worth mentioning the "ALX" version might be better for most users - this only has one ethernet port and pretty mediocre WiFi, but makes up for it by being half the price - ideal as a modem only device. The ALX gives you more ports and AC WiFi.

EDIT - Above says G.INP is included now.

I assume this can replace the crap that TalkTalk supply for its Fibre?
Edited by: "m5rcc" 16th Apr 2015

The modem in my TalkTalk super router box seems fine, the WiFi on it is terrible. When it works great on wired you regularly have to restart to get WiFi running again as clients can't connect. Never used to happen with my Draytek box

i had the 7800N, and the only thing i miss from it is the builtin vpn server, which this doesn't have.

other than that;
ui is the same
wifi strength is no different
this only has one gigabit port, which is fine as that goes to a gigabit switch
looks nicer, more compact

yes, it will work fine with talktalk

It's interesting to see that they list Sky as one of the compatible ISPs.

I was always under the impression that Sky used a proprietary authentication method (MER if I remember correctly), which means that you can only use Sky routers with Sky Broadband.

Is this still the case?

Bloody good router this' if your thinking of getting fibre broadband then this is the baby to look at if not then there's no reason to buy this you'd be better looking at the 7800dxl for non-fibre replacement bloody good routers !

I have this on talk talk fibre and it's solid as a rock.

What's the wifi connection like on this? I've got Sky fibre and have no issues when connected via ethernet, but other devices using wifi can be a bit dodgy at times. Was thinking about buying this if I'll see an improvement over wifi.

Macphisto this post may help you with your question :-)

It is certainly possible to switch out the standard Sky router for your own one; I have done so for my broadband connection.

Sky's firmware on their routers don't make it easy to recover your username and password required for setting up another router but it is possible.

There were a few sites around which could produce the results after feeding them some data from your router. That is how I managed to replace my one.

However it took a few hours of fiddling at the time.

That's the exact issue I have. Dunno if just a range extender will do the job for a third of the price....

Am I right in thinking that I can replace my virgin cable router with this and still get 140mps download?

Bought a 8800NL also great router, rock solid, Broadcom chipset, good value for money. Using it to replace the BT HomeHub 5 as HH5 cannot put into bridge mode to use as modem only. Vectoring and G.INP is also supported.

For Virgin 140Mbps I think you will need the 8800AXL as 8800NL has only 1 Gigabit port.

That's what I was thinking, but I think the issue is more to do with poor network bandwidth using Sky's router and was hoping this would allow multiple users to connect using wifi at the same time with seeing any major delays, i.e. 2 kids using xbox live.

Also, does anyone know if you can set this router up to limit the amount of bandwith per user or IP address? Rather than have one user suck up all the bandwith and everyone else struggling to get any.

hi guys i bought this router last week as i heard it was stable, wifi seems to be an issue though, are there any good guides at setting it up optimally?

Was considering changing to an archer c7 v2 or c8 if the wifi doesn't improve - is this a bad idea? thanks
