Hmm I'm not a fan; no pun intended

A camping friend has the BioLite stove and it's rubbish - she ended up boiling her kettle on my £20 wood bruning gasification camping stove. And the BioLite wouldn't charge her phone. However at least they had the right idea with that i.e. generate electricity from the heat of the fire. This fire pit doesn't power its own fan so you have to charge the unit every time you want to use it and when it's out of juice it's useless, just an expensive rectangular bucket with mesh sides.

Also, while adding more air into the fire will make it burn hotter (and reduce smoke) it will also burn through your fuel faster; and with most of the heat energy going straight up that's not very efficient - use electricity and lots of wood to heat the sky.

Sorry but it just looks like the kind of product that will spend its life in the back of a garage or shed.

I have the biolite stove with bbq attachment and it's fantastic. I use it over my bbq now if there's only a few things to grill. And a bit of free juice to charge my phone. I trigued by your £20 wood burning gasiffication stove though. What is it/can you send a link please.

Similar but mine was £15 from amazon, made by Lixada but there are different ones about. I wouldnd't pay £70 for one - yikes! The Lixada is excellent value for money though.

The fold-flat 'bushcraft' stoves are excellent too but sadly way too pricey so I can't justify one (I already have the Lixada, a folding BBQ/fire pit, a Trangia kit and a BCB Fire Dragon :D)

Fair enough. Maybe you have a newer version of the stove or hers was iffy. She bought it when they first came out quite a few years ago. She tried to get a fire going inside it but it struggled no matter what she did. I thought was due to a lack of air supply to keep the fire going even with the fan on. I'm a reasonably well seasoned camper so have made plemty of camp fires etc. but I couldn't get a good fire going inside it either so we gave up in the end. As fior the phone charging I guess it just couldn't supply enough juice to charge her phone, an iphone but dunno which one at the time, a 5 or 6 I guess. I do like the idea behind it and had considered one myself but was put off after that experience.

There are quite a lot of cheap gasification stoves about. I bought my Lixada on amazon in June 2016 for £14.59 (just checked my orders :)) but I'm sure other places will sell them. The Lixada really is a little gem - well made as in properly solid, folds down into a small neat package, is dead easy to get a fire started and it is 'gasifying' (?) within a minute so almost no smoke. Here's the link for amazon but mine looks slightly different as they've updated it... amzn.to/2Gq…9q4

Couple of pics from 2016 when I got the little stove which shows design is slightly different, and I guess better on the new version. Second pic was me testing the stove at full pelt - it has no trouble breathing even when full of sticks. It will however leave a scorch mark on grass.
