I've had one of these from Lidl last year; I think the packaging called it SOS tape. Good stuff, did a good quick and dirty fix on a leaky pipe.

My instinct would be no. As you wrap it around a pipe you pull it tight and mould it. Well that’s what I did several years ago.
Will this help sealing me off from the horrors of reality?

You could use it for this but use a hot air gun (or hairdryer at a push) to soften it as you apply, that way the melted bitumen fills any uneven areas.
