Ridley Scott directs this fast moving action adventure about the disastrous mission in Somalia on October 3, 1993 where nearly 100 U.S. Army Rangers, commanded by Capt. Mike Steele, were dropped by helicopter deep into the capital city of Mogadishu to capture two top lieutenants of a Somali warlord which leads to a large and chaotic firefight between the Rangers and hundreds of Somali gunmen which destroys two U.S. Black Hawk helicopters in Mogadishu.

Just a quick note of caution: I bought one of these from HMV last year, however whilst it was indeed a version with 3 discs in it, there was nothing very 'Special Edition' about it. It was all presented in a standard DVD case with an extra disc holder inserted in the middle to hold the extra content discs.

So, great film, great price, but if you're after a 'true' Special Edition in folding digipak, then there's a good chance that this isn't one.

Here are a couple of pictures of mine. As you can see, it's a "'true' Special Edition". Just for reference, the code on mine is CDR 32708 SE which matches the catalogue number on the HMV website here: hmv.com/hmv…620

Wow, guess I just got very unlucky then.

My set bought from HMV about 3 months ago also has the code CDR 32708 SE but came in a 3 disc plastic Amaray case.

Loads of other people who bought the same set from HMV at that time also got the same set in the same plastic Amaray case, it appears that the sets from HMV are like this

yeah this is a good set because i stole this from a holiday home so got it for free!!!

Thanks Amibees - nice post. My son has just asked me if I could get him this movie - good timing, great price! H&R added.

Cheers.

Yeah great price, but it mightbe the repackaged standard case with the 3 discs and not the nice fold out special edition pack. Good for under £4 though and still £6 in store, even better if it turns out to be the true special edition!

If that's the case then HMV is doing dodgy dealings and I'll be asking for a refund.

This edition has never been released in anything other than a foldout Digipak. Mr Scott would be most disappointed!

UPDATE: I've received the item and can see that the fault lies with the studio and not HMV.

Looks like the special edition was repackaged in 2007 and uses the same product code as the real special edition. You lose the booklet, the Digipak packaging, the cardboard sleeve, and the aspect ratio is 2.40:1 on the box (not 2.35:1 as per HMV site - not sure if the original special edition has a different aspect ratio).

HMV should update the product page with a new release date and new picture.
