email is the best, although html emails can't be displayed
BB browsers are so-so. However you can load opera-mini which is great
Note that this is not 3G

Not a brilliant phone IMO. I've had a work 8100 for over 2 years, and it feels pretty dated now and a bit big.

It's fine for a business phone, but there are better options out there if you have a choice of phone, and you really want something 3G (which this isnt).

Loads of firms use these, so ebay is overflowing with old ones which you could just unlock and get a PAYG sim for.

How easy is it to set up a second hand cackberry with a new email address? I did hear a rumour that is wasnt so easy? Something to do with registration?

I had a look at one of these when they came out on payg, you have to pay the 5 quid a month blackberry email service which is:
`Unlimited, subject to 250MB fair usage policy'
Is that an oxymoron or what?
Also, that isn't very much data, if you wanted to use it for anything other than email you'll need to spend more on data packages.

email & browsing via the blackberry browser, 50MB per month for £5 Fair Use Policy

BB data is compressed so for email and browsing its a great deal on payg

easy enough but the last network must unlatch it from their BB records b4 the new network can authorise - buyer beware 2nd hand you need to get the seller to do this

Orange BB Pearl also has UMA technology in the handset & is supported by Orange's servers

UMA allows you to use the mobile with wi-fi to connect to Orange rather than Orange's wireless mobile network - so where there is wi-fi there is a Orange signal - IF that broadband provider allows UMA data, so if a contract customer buys this they get a better signal at home/office/bar/friends and 500MB BB compressed data for £5 a month

on contract UMA bags you for upto £5 calls to 30 international landlines UK landline 01/02/03 & Orange UK mobiles when a call started on wi-fi & then seemlessly transfers over to Orange signal

Orange UK's UMA product " Unique " gives Blackberry 8120 users free calls for Orange broadband users or a couple of quid for non Orange BB users

Available to all Personal & Business customers Unique gives you FREE* landline calls to Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Czech republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and USA* & UK - Orange mobiles & landlines with the 01/02/03 prefix

Customers starting thier call within wi-fi^ will be connected to Orange via the internet to Orange's servers, moving out of wi-fi the call will be seemlessly switched to the regular Orange mobile network BUT YOUR CALL WILL REMAIN COMING FROM YOUR UNIQUE BUNDLE when the call started over wi-fi.

*1000 mins FUP
Calls over 1000 mins will be billed as per your usual plan minutes/rates, ie... X net mins & for the 30 international landlines the Orange International rate so be carefully - you can check your Unique allowance by calling 150 option 1, option 1 & option 1 again - X network minutes will be detailed first then Unique, automated system ONLY reports " xx Orange to Orange & landlines minutes " but includes the above 30 international destinations as these are your ~ Unique minutes

Unlimited landlines/Orange are STILL included if have them on your plan as a bundle after the Unique minutes are used up

Call customer services & ask for Unique Bundle to be applied to a/c, this will show as " Unique to OMobiles-Fixed-intl " on your bill & calls started over wi-fi will show as " homezone "

UMA is a good little function actually, particularly if you live in a rural area. Orange france have a lot better selection of UMA handsets though

The 250mb fair usage policy is actually pretty good. You're unlikely to use that on a mobile tbh unless you're using it as a modem. Web pages generally take up very little data... for instance this page is 19.77kb meaning you could view this page 12948 times per month and not exceed your usage.

Fair usage policies are pretty lenient anyway. I know at Orange you can use around 5000 of your "fair usage" 3000 free texts before they look at charging you.

If you're trying to get them to add UNIQUE to the account, tell them the bundles are in BUNDLES>PROMOTIONS>HOMEZONEBUNDLES on their screen in CSS.

The bundles are called:

"Unique to OMobiles Add" for the £1 one (CSS code: CONVUNIQUEADD1)

"Unique to OMobiles-Fixed Add" for the £3 one (CSS code: CONVUNIQUEADD3)

"Unique to OMob-Fixed-Intl Add" for the £5 one (CSS code: CONVUNIQUEADD5)

tell them to look in Guru, search for "unique phone", and go to the "costs" page

wow, you guys think this is a good deal? i bought my Curve 8320 off ebay for £50 and my pearl 8100 for £25.... formatted it, bought a new cover all in all £70 for curve and pearl with new fitted covers and software (and unlocked)

got a mate moving some New 8900 sim free curves for £250 but waiting for the delivery if anyone is interested keep in touch and I will get back when they are available. (don't ban me mod's, i don't know if mentioned this is legal or not but just edit it please! lol)

When are 3G Blackberry Pearls coming out? Isn't it time to move on RIM? They are are still behind on the Consumer market even though Blackberry's were meant to be Business devices in the first place..

great deal, but I cant use orange, we're in a dud spot where orange is concerned, so does anyone know of any good deals on these for t-mobile

does this support wifi..I thought blackberry phones do not support this feature. So say if I have a sky broadband at home, can I configure that on my 8100 or 8120:?

It MIght have wifi, google it!

as for t-mobile, if your on pay as you go or contract you need to pay £7.50 a month to have the function to use blackberry messenger, wap etc...

on o2 blackberry messenger is free and its a pay and go kinda tariff for email and internet which i never use as i have an iphone as well.

Seriously, this phone aint worth more then £50, my 8100 sits at home all day, i only use it at off peek time to call the wife on t-mobile! it's annoying (the keypad) and just not as good as the curve serious.

RIM Blackberry 8120 Pearl specifications are here: gsmarena.com/bla…php

My employer has just handed these out to everyone. Must have spoken to 20 people and only found one person who likes it. It works OK, emails turn up etc. but the keyboard is a complete pain and the menu system must has been designed by 2 hippies dropping acid.

Yes, teddyshady it does support WiFi but do yourself a favour and try and find a used Nokia E71, it will be 5 times better than a Pearl.
