What happens in a few years when the battery dies. I can stomach throwing away 30 pounds but 100+!

If it's still available in a few years. Many item specific spares seem to get discontinued.

this one is 18v and less powerful. not a fair comparison
Cheapest this has been in ages. Would be good if the cold voters could give a link to a comparably powered strimmer at a lower price.

I have a petrol one that cost me £200, and then circa £20 per year to service, so if the battery lasts me a couple of years and for some reason becomes obsolete then I'm still OK!

Why do you pay £20 per year for a service?

My thoughts exactly!
Probably cold because petrol ones are cheaper.
Maybe post again in a week and it will be red hot. I dunno. Its the way this site works.
Facebook effect. A bit like getting a tattoo because someone else has one and its popular - vote cold because everyone else is.

Like I said petrol ones cheaper than this will end up costing you unless you can constantly fix them yourself and service. I ain't bothered about heat, if my sharing has helped someone who was looking for one like myself then jobs good.

5 year warranty requires it.

Seems very steep. You bought it for £200, and paid another £100 for the warranty!
