It mentions this btw ....Optional Blacksys GPS module available (sold separately) for full journey mapping and speed information.

As for Win 8 I am sure if you download the player from the manufactureres website will resolve that problem.

How much space in mb does recording take? just thinking of length of journeys. also just watched Car Crash Britain.

If you're serious about getting a dashcam there are some very good sites out there reviewing them and showing actual footage. As a starter for ten try googling "techmoan", the g1w is widely regarded as the best starter/budget camera and is significant higher resolution than this one.

Lol yes I know.

Well as for recording it comes with a 4gb ds card and remember it records continuously and overwrites memory when it is full. If you need it for a crash you only need those few seconds so I am not sure if a bigger card is really needed.

Me too,
Just watched car crash britain,
Been on amazon looking for a car cam
There is too much choice, can anyone recommend one?
After a good one with HD, GPS, capable of auto record, capable of accepting large capacity sd card, built in screen.
Thanks

how do these things work ?
do you have to turn on and off everytime you leave ?
how do you charge these ?
do you take it off everytime you stop so that you don't get junkies breaking your window to steal it ?

Thanks for the info, is the g1w still a good budget buy even though its a few years old? Any other ones to look out for?

Connected to the cig lighter. They switch on with the ignition and off again when you switch off.

When plugged in automatically charges and starts and stops via ignition. Battery lasts about an hour. Mine is permanently plugged in wiring is plenty long enough and is hidden down gaps, Take mine out every night.
Go on Youtube and look at quality of different ones the G1W is amazing quality.

Post a deal about it mate...lol

Somebody has lol

As others have said, an official G1W is less money from ePrance on Amazon, it's got a higher resolution than this and is widely regarded as the best at this price point. I have one for the rear of my car and I can't complain about recordings.

No they are automatic, you put an SD card in, connect up to power and it will turn on each time the car is started.

Most people wire them into the fusebox and hide the wires in the headliners of the car, check out your car brands enthusiasts/owners club website to see how others achieve it. eg.
www.briskoda.net
http://www.kia-forums.com/
http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/

Charge is normally though a cigarette lighter or hard wiring into the fusebox (costs about £3 in materials and an hour of your time to do (anyone can do it as it's very simple)

With regards to being obvious dashcams are usually very hard to notice.

Can you see it?

Smaller more expensive model but gives an idea of positioning and as you can see it blends in with the rear view mirror. You can even get ones that you replace the rear view mirror with one that has the camera built inside.

This guy has tested many of them in depth and has put together this guide to Dashcams CLICKY
If you are not bothered about adding the GPS facility, then this camera might be of interest (It's actually a quid cheaper than the one posted above due to the strong pound) CLICKY

been looking for a car cam and most reviews from online retailers seem hit and miss..... so I've looked else where and halfords have one for £49.99, might go get it :-)

For a cheap one g1wh that's the upgrade to the g1w about same price. You really don't need a screen as your not going to be watching it whilst driving. I myself have got two mobius cameras more expensive but always updated and great at night time. Really should have a rear camera aswell not just front. Don't buy crap from halfords and dont buy cameras which have these night vision led's as the light even though naked to the eye it will reflect back from the car windscreen and you will see the light on your recording.

I have the e-prance mini 0803 from Amazon which hides nicely behind the rear view mirror.
Went for this after looking at the review's on the techmoan website.
Didn't want to keep removing it from the windscreen when parked up.
Captured some good footage of all sorts of illegal driving since I got it.

I've it 2 of these cameras, 1 in my car and one in the wifes, as said they sit very neatly behind rear view mirror and are very difficult to see from the outside of the car

Bought a CW-100 a month ago when at £29.99 but forgot to post it, but price is now £38.47

picture is reasonable.

also has a parking mode where, as long as the power is on, the unit monitors the G shock sensor and will begin recording if someone hits your car while parking.

These has been many discussions on here about the car cams . There is loads of cams to chose from . I have 5 , been buying them as they got better and cheaper . Below is a picture from one of the recent ones . This has 2 cameras in built to the device ,but you can choose to have front or back or both recording . It has GPS and also links to Google Earth on playback .I think this on was only £26 .

Normal sized DashCams look enormous in the rear window. You don't want one of those obscuring your view in the rear mirror. The tiny Mobius is perfect for front & rear facing duties.

Mini 0805 for £50? Where from??

I'm looking for a small car security camera but would prefer a rechargeable battery one. Don't want the in-car charger lead hanging down all the time

What's the point though, insurance purposes or giving the police? Will this signal an end to over taking lane hoggers?

The G1W has been slightly tweaked (now G1W H ) to give better wide angle coverage but still one of the best budget cameras around. I have had this unit for a year or so and it has been brilliant, it is actually full HD and I wouldn't buy any other front only dash cam at any price. This is a link to a sample video from my G1WH, nothing exciting but shows the quality, the skipping is a YouTube problem, not the cam. Select 1080p on the YouTube settings menu for full HD, may take a few seconds to adjust.

Gps with the camera? No thank you. I am not driving over the limits but if I accidentally drive 5miles above the limit and someone crash into me I don't want to be blamed for speeding.

Transcend Drive Pro 200 front and rear set up here, Very good camera. Came recommended by many places 2014/15..
