Re rugged phones, I had a scout around recently as I did a Deal post for the Ulefone Armor 2 a few days ago. You can get the Blackview BV8000 Pro and BV9000 Pro (that one's pretty new) from China for around £174 and £225-odd respectively.

What probably lets this one down is the cameras, but I read good things about the BV8000 Pro's cameras - assume the BV9000 Pro will be even better.

Hoping this will be a trend and more will appear/prices will dip, as I know a few people who are very tough on their phones

There's also the Nomu T18 (just under £200) which has a walkie talkie, but it's hugely expensive for what it is gearbest.com/cel…tml

The BV8000 Pro does get a pretty good write-up hereand the photos don't seem to be too bad, admittedly in favourable light conditions. The BV9000 doesn't seem to offer much over the 8000 other than the 18:9 screen

The thought of taking pictures underwater is a bonus too Will keep watching the rugged phone Deals, I'd have been tempted by the 7000 Pro if I'd seen it earlier - just the cameras I'm not sure about.

Think the 9000 Pro does away with the headphone jack too, one of my pet hates with new phones.

Actually see the BV8000 Pro for £164.44 from TinyDeal, but no idea what this retailer is like!! tinydeal.com/bla…ml

Something to be aware of, the BV7000/8000 both have non-standard charger/headphone jacks meaning that you need special USB cables/headphones with longer connectors. A bit of a pain but I guess that's the tradeoff for the reinforced protection.

The BV7000 hides its connectors behind flaps, but the 8000 does away with these.

Thanks. I find the headphone adapter trend really annoying - I use my phones as a media player a lot and I have a feeling those adapters will continually break (used to use a 3.5mm jack volume/play/skip remote with my plug-in headphones and I was always replacing them after a few months).

The people I have in mind for rugged phones would find them annoying too. Getting rid of the headphone jack on a waterproof phone makes more sense, at least, than on a vanilla phone. I'll keep looking
