Visually spectacular, intensely action-packed and powerfully prophetic since its debut, Blade Runner returns in Ridley Scott's definitive Final Cut, including extended scenes and never-before-seen special effects. In a signature role as 21st-century detective Rick Deckard, Harrison Ford brings his masculine-yet-vulnerable presence to this stylish noir thriller. In a future of high-tech possibility soured by urban and social decay, Deckard hunts for fugitive, murderous replicants - and is drawn to a mysterious woman whose secrets may undermine his soul.

Any idea where can I buy the original cut? Some director's cuts annoy me and this is no exception. Editors are clever and putting back director-indulgent scenes just because they were filmed is not always the right idea. I would also like remastered widescreen originals (non- director's cut ) of Star Wars and Aliens...

The director's cut isn't simply a few 'director-indulgent' scenes. The original version, or idiot-proof version, has a thoroughly different ending and a pointless gumshoe-esque narration.

It isn't even a case of 'editors are clever' because it was the money men who put them in because they didn't trust audiences to understand the film.

Is that an indirect way of calling me an idiot?

I just mostly prefer the originals. e.g. Aliens - the directors cut - has over emotional bits that get in the way of the overall blast-fest feeling of the film and I (personally) feel that the edits made on the original were good. Star Wars with the new 'pasted-in' digital effects - yuk. I am old enough to remember the original in the cinema and those new bits stickout like sore thumb. I'll allows extra X-wings though- there's always more room for more X-Wings.

Many a time I watch unused material on DVD and agree that it was removed for good reason.

Director's cut == usually a way of re-releasing a new version to make some extra money with the excuse of adding extra value.

Not at all. I actually agree that sometimes it's unnecessary. Th Star Wars rehashes are just terrible. I agree with you about editors too (I think Apatow-stable comedies could do with a couple of dozen), but I just think in the case of Blade Runner the director's cut is the definitive version.

The latest release is a bit of a cash-in, but I really do dislike the original and the cynical editing that doesn't respect the audience's intelligence.
