No need to commit to an overpriced BT landline service to obtain a half-baked solution, just obtain a handset with TrueCall / CallMinder (ironically often branded as BT). Will work on any telecoms provider when callerID is active. Zero unwanted calls. Job done. Example handsets: BT8500, BT8600, BT8610 etc.

Can it block withheld numbers?

I hope so.. I think it might as it says it monitors and identifies nuicence calls then diverts them.

My post here is intended to help people who are currently BT Customers.. Many people are and not everyone can change phone providers.

Truecall / Callminder can be obtianed from £20+ via a Callminder-equipped handset. BT-contract-committed customers acknowledged, although the cost of the service is effectively not "free" as the minimum cost is the committed BT service fee; inclusive maybe, but not free. The point being missed is that the inclusive BT service is not a completely effective solution, whereas other solution(s) are.

Ahh I see. But free is still free.. I dont work for BT and have never said this is a completely effective solution but it may help some people.

Would the people who are voting this FREE deal cold please explain why this is a bad deal for BT customers.

Just voted it cold because of Christine Lampard. Alex Jones is a different matter

"Christine Lampard, ambassador for BT Call Protect."

lolololol

Is that what they now call TV-presenting footballers' wives for endorsing products?

Incidentally, since some idiot gave my email address to BT I have been plagued with spam from Call Protect.

I have had Call Protect for the last few weeks and I have to say that the nuisance calls have dropped to zero. However, one of my brothers tried to call me a few days ago ( BT landline to BT landline ) and Call Protect wouldn't allow his call through. I have since discovered that in order to edit callers and make certain numbers VIP numbers ( so they always get through ) you need BT 1571 or Call Minder and for this you have to pay.

Exactly.

Incidentally, who is Dian? I will stop if necessary.

Just a shame TPS does not work, always getting cold callers even though I am signed up to TPS

TPS does work. We've been signed up for years (dating back to the likes of 2007 and so) and hardly get any calls since being signed up. It's also up to the resident to report any calls you get to TPS.

"Once registration is complete telemarketers are legally bound not to call you."

I don't think any service can really block or divert withheld or private numbers.

I have heard through the grapevine (or Landline) that you have to re register to TPS every year. Perhaps this is how they start getting back through.
Cheers Op for trying to help
