Bluray is still overpriced. Until you can get deals like Singing in The Rain SE 2 disc edition for 2.99, i'll stick with standard dvds. Bluray cases are ugly too

I don't know how this format is ever going to grow much, it seems most peeps are prepared to wait until the films reach

Quidco too, might want to put that in the title so people don't forget (Like I often do!!!)

Blue ray will die a painful death soon. With the way high speed internet is reaching homes, streaming on-demand HD movies are just around the corner.

I'm sorry for anyone who's bought into blue ray. Well, at least you have a piece of history, I suppose.

I think we're a few years away from that. Possibly depending on your location you can get super-fast broadband but it's widely known that most of the UK cannot get much more than 2MB currently.

I live in an area where there is no-where in heck Ill get streaming HD anywhere near as good as Blu-Ray anytime soon.

That's a very wide, arching corner - you're talking about way into the future when BDs will be outdated anyway. The country's network is nowhere near capable of providing a decent SD service, let alone HD. No one wants to pay for a fibre network so it's out of the question for at least a few years.

Sky can just about manage an HD service over satellite, albeit with heavy compression.

Blu-ray is amazing. The only reason why it hasn't had a take-up like DVD is because most people would have to change their screen, costing hundreds, if not thousands of Pounds. DVD just meant £10-100 to get started.

theres DIVX and thats been out almost as long as DVDs and it was streamed...but guess what? DVDs are still on the shelves! they started at stupid prices like blurays...so soon blurays will come down in price! (as were witnessing)

More than one I'd have thought. Blu-ray will never catch on like DVD did/has. There are quite a few factors for this so I don't think this guy is that far wrong.

Blue ray will die as HD-dvd did. Digital downloads are the future............

HOWEVER this deal appeas to have a glitch. I added 4 items to my basket, changed my mind and decided to just get 2, but when I had 3 items in my basket they all stayed priced at £11! got 3 for £33.

it won't catch on in the same way no.

but nor will mass HD streaming/download any time soon.

And physical media is gonna need some serious battling to replace as the format of choice.

For most people, DVD is just fine. Not many people have ever watched a DVD and said 'this film would be better if it was slightly higher resolution'.

I don't think streaming is that far off either - you can already watch HD films on xbox 360 and itunes.

wouldn't mind the good hulk film

Does one exist?

I want the Bourne films, but I had them on HD DVD, and it's kind of annoying that I want 3 but can only have 2 in the offer! Want Equilibrium too but £44 on Blu Rays in one go I just can't bring myself to do...

yup one with Edward Norton is really good i was totally suprised by it!

yeah i know its easy to keep adding to collection my rule is if i already have it on dvd don't buy it on blu ray! otherwise i'll be forever buying them again!

All this talk of HD streaming/downloads is complete and utter nonsence. Even if every household in the country could receive HD streams the majority of people would still prefer to have a physical disc. As to those out there bemoaning the cost of BD discs and players, try and remember the early days of DVD. It took more than twice as long for DVD technology to drop in price to the current level of BD pricing.
Take my advice and invest in BD now. It really is the future. To do otherwise is equivalent of purchasing VHS years after DVD came out .

I can see the point of buying say Hulk, Bourne or the like on Blu(e) Ray(when it is reasonably priced that is), but why buy a sit-com movie? What benefit is there in that? Zack and whoever is poor as it is but to shell out 3 times the price of sitting thru it at the cinema is worse still.

Wrong! Dunno if anyone else has noticed but this offer can be the 2 for £22, 3 for £33, 4 for £44, 5 for £55... etc.
Basically after 2 any more are just £11 each!

LOL at this unrealistic opinion/comment, the UK internet infrastructure is NO where near ready to handle a large/majority amount of people streaming/downloading HD content, connection speed is one thing (max speed my line can handle is 2.5Mb) no sign of cable for the past 7 years since I moved in, or fibre optics for that matter, AND don't forget another BIG obstacle is nearly ALL ISPs have download limits/FUPs/AUPs etc etc, the internet network in the UK currently simply can NOT handle a lot of people all streaming/downloading HD content, may be 5-10 years down the line, speed will improve, but ISP limits will still be there, or you'll have to pay a fortune for a totally unlimited service, then pay extra to download the "official" releases.

PLUS the bitrate/PQ/AQ of BluRays are so much higher than the HD downloads currently available online (MKV rips most widely downloaded), I know full BD disc rips are available, but they're not legal/offical releases but imaging downloading 25gb-50gb (average size of BluRays) for just 1 movie? (obviously the studios can compress the files further to save file size, but quality inevitably suffers)

i agree with No1_Dave (coming from a Liverpool Fan thats hard lol) but its true, HD streaming for the masses is a long, long way off.

I do believe that at some point in the future that all Movies will be Downloads from Stores and nobody will have physical discs but thats talking 20 years maybe. We will have have Multi TB HDD Boxes with out TVs and nobody will ever have to bother with discs again.

But for the next 20 years then BD will live on, and i reckon in 3-5 years BD is the only way you will be able to but films, its just the way of the world. DVD took over from VHS in the same vein.

Having said all that, £11 is still over my budget. i have over 80 HD-DVDs and 80 Blu-Rays and ive spent an average of £3 per HD-DVD and £6 per BD and i wont go over that amount.
