I'm not one to usually post iPlayer content as a freebie, but I think this is cracking news. Blue Planet 2 is going to be available on BBC iPlayer from 10th December - after the final episode has aired on BBC.

How has this reached over 800 degrees?

From all the the people voting hot.

Is it free or is it included in the price for licence fee payers?

What a series!

Worth the licence fee alone.

This is not free - it costs £150 for a year’s subscription to iPlayer and BBC television.

It's worth noting that it will be available through Sky Q and selected TVs. Just out of interest, did anybody get the Planet Earth offer on iPlayer recently for the 4K content?

Wasn't this in F.D's mega-thread?

The one titled [From 16th December]?

I dunno, I hadn't even seen it to be honest, but a quick look suggests not.

Does this confirm this can't be played in HDR on any Samsung 4K/HDR tv but can be played on quite a few Vestels?

Not a lot to be honest. I think it was just episode 1 that was available as some kind of beta test. I own a Hisense 4K TV and when I fired up iPlayer recently it offered me the chance to watch Planet Earth in 4K. Splash screen on app launch.

Ah, there we go. The page linked here has it.

There is a demo available if you go to the beta version of iPlayer. That said, it looks nice but I find it stutters. I have no problem with 4K on Netflix or Amazon at all though.

@BuzzDuraband cheers, cant wait to try this out on my BF Lg i bought..

So it is only going to be available on two devices?! What about 4k capable games consoles like ps4 pro/xbox one s/x? Or media boxes like shield tv or fire tv boxes? Also if that is to be the case isnt it favouring sky a bit when virgin have the 4k capable v6 box too?

Great freebie and i added heat for that alone, but if it is really only going to be on those two devices then a huge part of the population wont get to see it.

The demo is also on the iplayer app on the tivo v6 box so I suspect it'll be available there too

I really do hope not. I don't use Sky or Virgin, so it would be nice to see it as a part of any console apps, smart TV apps and whatever else. As I mentioned earlier they seem to have been trialing the 4K content on various different platforms by the looks of it, so fingers crossed that the availability will be more wider spread

Came up on my LG tv over the weekend. Cheers OP for the reminder

Thanks buzz great heads up, would have missed this otherwise. Looks great in HD will look amazing in 4k

So, this isn't going to be available just through a browser? For anyone with a 4k computer monitor?

yes I did and have to say it was really good , you can find it on top right in settings on bbc iplayer app
I bought this tv on here
hotukdeals.com/dea…e=3
and aint going to buy an ultra 4k player I am going to wait until ps5 so this is really good news

Don't know but I'm not going to click the deal button in case they send the detector van round.

I was looking for this before the first episode, have avoided watching it so I can see it in all its 4K goodness!

Ah well, guess I can't cancel the disc I ordered a few weeks ago from the deal on here. Got a Sony x8509 that has allegedly had HLG support added, but only for HDMI input.

I wonder if I can claim the cost back from the BBC!

I can't get the page to work. I have Virgin 4k, Xbox One X and a new Samsung TV, hopefully I can get it somewhere. I will probably buy the 4k Blu Ray anyways but the Planet Earth 2 one I have is dodgy.

There are Samsung and Sony TVs on the list:
bbc.co.uk/ipl…uhd

The article implies that it might be available to watch in 4k on other sets and devices, however it will play without HDR if it hasn't received a firmware update for HLG.

What list are people looking at ? I see sony and Samsung on it. Sadly no Panaphonic models covered.

Is UHD better than blu Ray ?

A normal Blu Ray is 1080p, UHD is generally 2160p. 4 times the quality. There can be other improvements as well.

Panasonic is definitely there on the list from showtek and MBeeching .

Seriously the Sony series not in that list

You're looking at the old list, that was for the Planet Earth 2 trial earlier this year.

Samsung 2016 Quantum Dot TVs are not on the list.
