Blueberry Bush in 9cm Pots £2 Glitch @ B&Q

Found 27th May 2015
Got some (more) Blueberry bushes in B&Q on Sunday, supposed to be priced at £3.70 each or 3 for £10. However, used self scan and never noticed til I got home that they went through at £2 each, so a nice saving of £4 - or one free with a little extra change.

This offer wasn't marked in the garden centre bit of the store anywhere, nor is it in the previous months or current instore (national) flyers.

Price confirmed again at another local store to me, so added another 5 for a total of £10 today, given the local stores price for a punnet of these, I should be quids in for the coming years!

These are in 9cm pots and currently stand around 10-12" high, looking very good, healthy and starting to flower. Re-pot with some ericaceous compost in at least a 30cm diameter pot and you're sorted. These can be picked up in B&M's for £3 a bag and £1.49 a pot.

well i hope you have a very large garden if you intend keeping them. they are supposed to grow 5-6ft tall and if planted in ground, place 4 ft apart.....

Doesn't sound like you need a particularly big garden then?

Better grown in a larger sized pot so you can control the acidity, height depends on variety but 5-6ft is unlikely in a pot, ours is about 3ft and has tonnes of blueberries coming. The OP pretty much covered this in his post

still waiting for my blueberries to be delivered from sutton seeds
so frustrating

Just because they may SELL it to you, doesn't mean it will thrive in your garden. Like previous discussions here on Olive trees.... good luck with your first crop. (_;)

Rubbish you can grow them in pots perfectly if you look after them & prune properly. My dad has loads in pots & biggest is 2 foot & is covered in fruit

Blueberries aren't Mediterranean plants though. They thrive in Sweden, Poland and uk. I've cropped loads. Just remember to water them regularly during hot dry spells.

they were selling blueberry bushes in poundland

Do you know what variety these were? Might help explain the difference. I'm going to try and get 4 plants this evening.

Thanks for that, I could do with some of those, but unfortunately my local b&q (Havant) has none left :-(

Unlike olive trees, blueberry bushes are extremely hardy so much easier to grow, the only absolute essentials are acid soil, which is why they are best grown in a pot of ericaceous compost and rainwater if your tap water is the hard side of soft.

Best handset RIM have made recently.

Voted hot. Bought 3 today for £6 at Newbury B&q garden centre. Were marked 3 for £10 but scanned at £2 each at the till.
