Have never shopped in CEX because I always found blurays more expensive than if I bought them new!

Haven't been there in a few years but popped in to kill time and discovered prices have dropped a lot. I appreciate this may have happened a while back.

Anyways I picked up the following:

Paranormal activity 1 - £1
Paranormal activity 2 - £2
Let me in - £3
Juno - £3.50
Brick - £3.50

Hope someone benefits from this

They do get some bad press and rightly so in some cases....but our local one is very good, clean, staff have a sense of humour, the things we buy are always clean and in good order (Although would think twice about spending a lot for a gadget due to their dodgy returns policy but fortunate enough to know someone who works at one so a little easier ) and no better or worse than any other SH retailer and as we are lucky to know someone who works at one the 15% discount is handy sometimes.

I mostly buy Blu-Ray's from CeX instore and online and the quality of the discs is consistently close to immaculate condition. I check their site regularly for the Blu-Rays I want and await them to drop in price. You can get some very good prices, for example they have The Hobbit Blu-Ray budget version which just means the case is probably rental for £2 when I last checked!

Never been inside a Cex store, but from what I can gather it would mostly be like other businesses - some locations may have great stores, but others are to be avoided for whichever reasons apply.
Heat for the price, perhaps some people can find something they've been after if they notice this deal

Bear in mind the £2.50 delivery charge if ordering online. They offer a free returns facility (label print), but their customer service is appalling, and has already been well-documented on HUKD. Best to use PayPal as you may have to find yourself raising a PP dispute in order to elicit any form of response from them.

Some are franchises. Others are not.

They do have SOME reasonable priced discs.. I got kickass for £2.. Now try trading some stuff in and you'll realise how and why!

Sorry for the previous posters sorry attitude the store I went into recently appeared to prey on the less fortunate, there was a queue of about 20 trading in their possessions including a struggling family with carrier bags full of stuff you know they've lost 80-90-% value of..

It's the nature of the beast and in the current climate of austerity places like this do a high turnover as do lenders and pawn shops.

Their buy prices are atrocious but no one can blame a business for maximising profits. It would be good all round if their was some more competition which would force CEX to raise their game.

That being said a deal is a deal is a deal.

" Free market capitalism " has it's downsides.

Our best days were supposedly in the post-war rubble, deep in debt and on rations.

Now we have consumerism and CEX is just the tip of the Bernays, Friedman, Chicago School of Econollocks iceberg that will drown us all.

CEX do have competition from the likes of Cash Convertors and Cash Generator. Not known for their philanthropic principles either really. If only they were a not-for profits that paid respectable prices!

Did you know the family personally ? How exactly do you know they're "struggling" ?

There were some pretty obvious clues.

The worn out cheap clothing.
Bags full of things a person would only sell if absolutely desperate.
The couple frantically trying to get the assistant to accept items that were rejected.
etc

Could be wrong of course. Maybe it was a cunning charade!

Like the beggars who are really millionaires.

I can vouch for this from personal experience. They are utterly awful at dealing with returns / rejected discs. Take it from me, never order from them online!

I've done all of the above in CEX as well as Cash Converters and other similar shops and I certainly wasn't "preyed upon" or "struggling".

At the end of the day, nobody forces people to use these shops so the notion that people are "preyed upon" or that the shops "exploit the vulnerable" is, quite frankly, b*llocks.

You weren't there my friend by all means pick an arugment with yourself if you want to but it was very clear what I was witnessing and you weren't present.

If you DON'T think people are exploited by such shops, maybe you haven't seen the trade ins they offer nor the dire straits people find themselves in. Especially at this time of year people will do desperate thngs to eg. make their kids happy. CEX isn't the worst but it depends what you're trading - some offers are SICK - it's the pawn-broker type ones that are the worst with their derisory offers, and ploughing high% profits from the poorest people who dn't have many alternatives by holding their goods to ransom.

Merry christmas btw !

How do you know I wasn't present ?. Do you know me personally ?. Are you sitting on my settee right now without me realising?. What a ridiculous thing to say.

I suppose i'll bite ..

I have quite extensive experience of the types of trades offered by these shops thanks. I'm fully aware of the pricing model and fully aware of how they assess items having used them for many, many years and having sold plenty of things to them myself so no, I don't think they're exploiting people because people have the freedom to choose whether or not they want to use these shops. I chose to sell what I sold in those shops, nobody "preyed" on me and forced me to do so.

You have to understand that these shops are in business to make money - they're not charitable organisations. Everyone will get the same offer regardless of their financial circumstances because that's the business model.

I have huge sympathy for those people who are shafted by this sh*tty government and put in to a situation where they have to sell things to buy food, but that's certainly not the fault of the likes of CEX or Cash Converters.

If anything I've made money by buying cheap trading in for higher values.

It's possible to do that if you're savvy.. but it's a very narrow range of goods you can do that on. It's something you might do if you WANT money. If you NEED money, that's something else. Try taking in your TV, DVD collection, a fishing rod, a mountain bike, whatever else you've got kicking around. Thanks to things like benefit sanctions more and more people are doing that. CEX are not the worst, but make no mistake they make very derisory offers on certain classes of goods. CC and the like are effectively legalized loan sharks.

Hankhandsome you barely even qualify as a troll, your arguments are that inept. You sound like you've lived a sheltered upbringing. If you want to open your eyes to the truth, search online you'll find ex-employees talking about these "businesses" in exactly the terms I have. And here are some other things people "choose" to do :

Payday loans
Extortionate APR% HP/credit
Food banks
Prostitution
etc

Wow, first of all you actually knew that i wasn't in the branch of CEX and now you know what type of upbringing i had.

Are you actually my father ? Or just someone who hasn't really got the first clue about the real world ?
