BMW 1 Series Hatchback Special Edition M140i Shadow Edition 5dr Step Auto - 24 Month Lease, 8k Miles - What Car

101
Found 24th Jan
I'm currently in the market for a Golf R, however was just scouting around a few similar spec cars and felt this was a very good price for this particular model! Dont get me wrong there are definately cheaper cars out there, but the spec on this model is massive.

So anyways I found this on 'WhatCar' - But sold by 'Rybrook BMW'.

BMW 1 Series Hatchback Special Edition M140i Shadow Edition 5dr Step Auto.
- 24 Month Contract

- 8k Miles = £7942.48 Total - (305.48 x 23 + £916.44 Initial)
- 10k Miles = £8404.76 Total - (£323.26 x 23 + £969.78 Initial)

The difference in price between the two offers is roughly 23p per mile, so of course if the dealer is offering say 15p extra per mile then of course you're better off going for the 8k miles option... I'm not sure what a typical charge is though!

There's no point listing all the specs but in a nutshell;

  • 0 to 62 mph (secs): 4.6
  • Engine Power - BHP: 340
  • Wheel Type: 18" ALLOY
  • EC Combined (mpg): 39.8
  • Petrol

I appreciate some dislike leasing cars, but if anyone has any questions I'll try my best to answer - Thanks.

Surely that's not really "Personal" Contract Hire then?

Why would there be restrictions?

Who knows. But BMW make the rules. Its been talked about on multiple car forums.

exactly a few people have asked BMW. But responses have been vague. Looks like they are targeting certain individuals for some reason.
Your local BMW dealer will match any lease offers on a PCP if you prefer that route.

Fantastic cars, amazing engine, realistic running costs, although I have the M240i which costs a little bit more than the 140 but I prefer the coupe looks.

You would not be disappointed if you chose an M140i over a Golf R one little bit.

One minor detail putting me off this is the size of the car and the AWD.

In realistic everyday terms, how much does the rear wheel drive aspect effect the driving experience - Plus have you ever had an older 1 series (I.e. 06/07/08 Plate) - I got in one once and It felt cramped and narrow, but I'm sure I heard the newer models upped the size a little bit more?

Does seem a little odd. Having a company car allowance covers a whole range of jobs, from barely minimum wage to senior management. Likewise company directors - you can be one if you run business from your shed that turns over £1K a year.
Recently received my M140i from BMW Rybrook and although the car is fantastic, the service was not! I was constantly chasing for order updates and paperwork checks. Although it was worth it in the end, it was extremely difficult!

Regarding the car itself - amazing. I'm over 6 foot tall and have plenty of space, though I wouldn't want to be in the passenger seat behind me.

I too was looking at the Golf R and S3 though in the end decided the 3 litre straight 6 of the M140i was the better option.

If you can definitely add the sat nav pro package, and adaptive suspension

You should put a picture of the M140i on this cos it looks so much better than the standard one, plus I think the 5 door looks better still.
I have the 118d 66 plate and it's terrible / laughable in the snow! But I still love it. Would love the higher spec one and will buy another BMW even with how bad they are in bad weather

Was yours the same price as this?

Pretty much. Mine was a slightly different deal as I did 3+35 6000 mpa on a business contract. I also had a couple of extras added. But yes, give or take a few quid it's the same. By the way excess mileage is 11.43p + VAT. I'm assuming it's similar for this deal.

Probably on the wrong run-flat tyres.
is this xdrive? someone above mentions awd but not 4x4 as far as I can see

Pretty sure you can only get an M140i xdrive in America. Doesn't exist over here unfortunately
Good find! Voted hot. Out of interest, what kind of prices were you finding for a Golf R? I’m also in the market for a good hot hatch on personal lease

Probably on the wrong run-flat tyres.

How do you mean, the wrong tyres?

I've just taken delivery of a 2 series with Run Flats, and when it snows (as it will now I've bought a RWD car) until June I'm wondering how it's going to handle in the slippy stuff.

Do run flats make it harder to control?

At the moment the best I could find was 24 Month, 10K miles - Golf R 5DR DSG for around £10k for the 2 years, which jumped slightly from around £9500 a couple month ago.

For me personally I think that’s too much so I’m hoping some good deals come of the new reg change - I think around the £8k range for that model is realistic (similar to this deal), not sure how long I’ll have to wait though

I had a mk7 golf R for 2 years before getting an m140i.
People mentioning size. Not much difference internally golf a little bigger in the back. The boot on the 1 series is bigger than the golf R.
Good to see a reasonable lease deal for a car that's actually got a decent bit of poke at 340ps. The AWD drive systems on these cars are brilliant for trying to lay down all that power at once.

Yeah that’s roughly what I’m finding. It’s certainly cheaper than a PCP but not amazing

The factory-shod tyres that come on a 140i are not all-season tyres, so obviously you are going to be slipping about, more so as a RWD car.

But this isn't AWD. As previously mentioned, the UK is denied the xDrive all-wheel drive version that overseas buyers can spec.

Because this is how they get their manufacturer discounts.

It’s an £800 rise this Friday.
Voted hot but this is a ****** of a deal to get.
You up need a letter signed by a company director who is also registered at Companies House.

Half all the people at my company have Director in their title but aren’t on the board or listed so they don’t count.

All all of the brokers showing similar deals to this are going through Alphabet (owned by BMW) and have the same terms.

They maybe didn't have time to call you twice a day to say it still hadn't arrived...

Please be assured that they would want to deliver it to you as soon as they possibly could, calling a dealership all the time doesn't make the cars arrive any quicker.
Incredible car (he says from experience - my current car).

Less sure on the deal. I realise it’s not the same, and I’m usually a big proponent of lease deals, but the incentives offered on PCP seals on these cars is generally incredibly good.

My PCP costs a little less than this lease deal.

Also - it’s appalling (I really do mean appalling) in the snow. You will need winter tyres.
Great price!
Do you need to call them?

Thanks for your input on a situation you're not aware of. Without going into too much detail it was actually relating to confirmation of paperwork where BMW Rybrook had stated everything was in order, whereas Alphabet (the finance company) was telling me it was not. I was therefore having to chase Rybrook to sort it out. They also gave the wrong registration plate initially after the insurance company wouldn't insure a BMW M140 that was listed as a Fiat 500. Then to top it all off they delivered the car to me with a defective battery meaning they had to load it back onto the flat bed truck literally 30 seconds after unloading it to take it back to Warwick and repair it. So all in all, terrible service! But again, thanks for your input.

May be best to get a few concrete weights out of some old washing machines and stick em in the boot

This is my 4th BMW in the past 14 years or so, we've always had one since our first one in 2004 so I have plenty of experience in different models.

Before the M240 I had a 120d M Sport 3dr which was also a great car but it was smaller than the 2 series certainly. My wife also has an E91 3 series, 2009 model which we've had since brand new and that has been excellent but size wise it's pretty close between the 3 series and my 2 series - in fact we use the 2 series as a family car at the weekends now as it is so nice to drive. Even with two kids in the back we get along fine, including trips away with luggage, scooters, footballs etc.

As for RWD, it affects the driving experience by being awesome!! As I say I've had them for years and RWD to me is fantastic, it's so much fun and nowhere near as worrying as some folk make out. I used to have a 1995 Toyota MR2, now that was RWD at it's most difficult, but you will be fine. BMW have always got it just right. The only time RWD is hard work is in snow, but really we get about 2-3 days a year of it. Winter tyres fix that as well.

It's fun in the wet, and the electronics will pull you in from any danger even in Sport+ mode. In the dry the grip is just there all the time, lovely.

You won't go wrong with a 140, superb cars and a real Jekyl & Hyde car - bumble along in Auto and Comfort and it's as easy as anything, but move it to Sport/Sport+ and Sports gearbox and it's an animal. Mine has pretty much every option as well and the Adaptive suspension is superb.

Buy one, YOLO and all that!!

For the rear passengers, I'm 6ft also and my 10 year old lad, who is actually 160cm tall (!!), fits behind me with no problems.

For anyone wanting to buy one with full discount, contact Tony Lewis from the above link - highly recommended and will sort you out with an amazing deal.

Depends where you live, no? A set of CrossClimates+ covers all bases.
