My BMW had its MOT today, got through but needed new tyres, not a biggy, they also recommended new air filter £35 to you sir - so I looked it up and got this one instead for £16.44.

Carpartsaver on Ebay seem to have the lowest prices at the mo, a lot cheaper than ECP with codes such as JANSALE - worth a check.

Good price, if not a little niche.

Carpartsaver IS actually ECP. I bought a battery from their eBay store, and it was delivered with ECP paperwork.

I think you're right - it seems to be 3 aspects of the same company, all with different prices

I was just interested to see that carpartsaver was cheaper than the other 2, even after codes

Yes, the different pricing structures are certainly interesting! It does pay to check prices between all (Eurocarparts, Carparts4less, & Carpartssaver) 3 sites, as although I think you're right that Carpartssaver seems to be cheaper on many things {my battery was >1/5 cheaper than if I'd purchased from the other 2}, windscreen wipers were actually cheaper on the Carparts4less website.

Cheers for the post, it's

OMG £35 for air filter! for my vauxhall it's only £4 hehe. Happy days

thank you Bentley boy

Crossland are at the cheaper end of products. Try getting a price for a Mann filter, they normally make the oem ones for BMW

**NEWSFLASH** MOT/Car service centre charge £35 for £16 part

that was about £3 more expensive on carpartsaver - you reckon I should have gone for that instead?

if so I'll just order that as well for next time

Sadly Crossland filters are no longer the quality they once were since they were bought over a few years ago. I think the Euro group is the only place which sells them now, I'd try to get something of a bit better quality.

garage boy said recommended change air filter every 2nd oil change

so I might use the Crosland next time, the Mann the one after, & speed up frequency a tad

sounds like a plan

I think Mann are top quality filters. They manufacture many OEM parts. I believe GM oil filters are often Hengst. ECP and their sister companies are generally good on prices. Always look out for discount codes. Can be a bit expensive without the discount codes.

I would say that one of the best things you can do to prolong your engines' life is to ignore manufacturers 20,000 mile service intervals and change your oil and filter more frequently. Especially if your engine has a turbo fitted. I reckon intervals are to save fleet operators money - they won't be dealing with the fallout after a few years.

If you are changing your own oil, make sure you check the specifications carefully, not just the grade/viscosity. Particularly VW group PD engines.

consistently says the single best thing you can do to look after your motor is an oil & filters chnge every 10,000 miles or on lower mileage minimum once yearly

Go for Mann filter as suggested by others. They are OEM quality and not usually much more.

Good grief man...

i) Try and put a sentence together that makes a little sense!
ii) This has been done to death - to the point of not being funny for any make of car.
