No so sure about the private registration. I'll have to change my name.

That's what I did was far cheaper than a private registration.

Manual gearbox is the best thing about it imo. The way a BMW should be.

It's not 1995 lol BMW Auto boxes are much more refined and desirable.

People are careful not to ding them or spill milkshakes in them. But thrashing them, crunching the gears, riding the clutch and whatever other bad driving habits people have is another matter.

This looks like an amazing price! Im after an automatic though. Any ideas for me or advice? Looking to buy a commuter car for motorway miles long distance. About 20k miles per year or more.
Wish I had the extra 8 grand.
Been looking at these at the local car place but only for about 10k budget.
They appeal to me for some reason.

Last shape 320d if you want a BMW. 20k is diesel territory.
There are a ton of these and Mini's coming out on the market now, as the Drive Now car sharing scheme is kaput!

I had a brand new Skoda Octavia Estate did 14,000 miles in 6 months. It was fairly basic and a 1.6tdi so given the choice to buy I'd look at a VRS diesel version.
Seems like a good price what am I missing?

The 1 series has recently been replaced by a brand new model (on a new platform), hence the rather steep discount compared to what it would have been list price a year ago (although at that point, there were also big discounts on new - as everyone knew the new model was on the way).

If you don't need to have the latest tech, this is a lot of car for the money.
Some information for those buying a used car from A.C...... a lot of their stock is from the hire department.

But they advertise the car or van etc as one owner, but be aware this may be true! But it's probably had hundreds of different driver's with the majority of them not caring about how they drive the vehicle as it's a hire car!

Agree that auto boxes are good but theres always personal preference and i like manuals. Each to their own i guess

I don’t think he was stating the autos were not refined but rather his preference for a manual for the ‘ultimate driving machine’.

These have a very odd driving position, you sit behind the B pillar.
I have a 2015 118i and the manual is AWFUL!!! I would defo do an auto with a 1 series
Test driven newer model but found Golf 7 more comfortable and relaxing to drive with DSG gearbox.

Yeah each to their own but Auto BMWs do hold better money as most people do prefer them.
BMW no longer make a manual 5 Series as there is no demand for them.

The DSG gearbox isn't a patch on the XF Auto box. I've had both would never go back to DSG.
Is this the Model thats not longer RWD?
ahh if only it were auto .. actually prefer this (lookswise) to the new chunky one

I had a 2012 116ed manual from new. Clutch went at 95000 miles and cost me £900 but was the only repair it ever required. 0 road tax and clocked on avg 68mpg compared to 75mpg quoted. Only ever had a mot and local annual service with brake pads and tires at decent intervals. Regret part ex at 113k miles last year because it wasnt ulez compliant.

Yep they bill it as the ultimate driving machine and one with an auto just doesn't fit that bill. BMW - the ultimate monotonous machine just to get you to work.

You can always use the paddle shift if you want but I guarantee you the car can change gear better than you can.
All BMW automatics have Sat Nav to read the road ahead, they are always in the right gear (you get 8 gears) it's faster acceleration and it can change gear quicker.

That's only let down by the car the gearbox is married up to; JLR build quality is diabolical (family member works for them to boot, so I hear it first-hand too). A brand new Velar the other day in traffic I was sat behind - the entire boot was misaligned and all over the place, like a Rover from 1999. The gaps between boot hatch and shell were dreadful and totally inconsistent. I've started noticing it on more JLR motors too in our work carpark as well. Can't unsee!

Are you saying BMW auto gearboxes utilise satnav to anticipate what gear to be in? I've never heard that before. It would have to be pretty smart to know speed limits, topography and whatnot.
That's great, considering a similar spec Ford Focus is around £25k.

Partly because it's a BMW yeah. Not because I like the badge For quality reasons though not to say look I've got a BMW.
I like the look of the car in general and there are some nice ones on the pitch between 10 and 12 grand.
It's a bit of a flash car place and they are amongst the few that I can actually afford.
Just want something decent for a change instead of the usual crap I buy lol.

When thinking about hire car I remind myself when Clarkson went to New Zealand and hired Toyota. Drive it like you stole it he said
I seem to be following his advice whenever I get a hire

Found out weeks after my partner bought a second hand VW (under two years, one owner) it was owned by enterprise.
Didn't trust the garage but she was happy with it at the time.
Had issues with the garage trying to charge for servicing when it was covered with the finance package.
Car is fine but as you said... One previous owner means jack all if you don't know the use.

I was looking in the same ballpark as you..

Best I thought was Seat Leon FR - it's essentially a Golf, but looks better and is cheaper.

Good luck with the search!

I wanted a 2010-2012 120d auto coupe version, but because of ulez and other city charging clean air zone for diesel euro5 and under, I gave up.

Was a typo I meant ZF gearbox! It's in BMW, Jag, Range Rovers etc.
