n+1 (_;)
From signing up with British cycling to getting the bike, took 4 days, the Halfords vouchers are mailed out via Special Delivery for free.
Is there a fee for joining British cycling?

Thanks, as per your heading!
Good work!

BUT I DO NOT NEED ANOTHER BIKE!! (At least until next summer when I really need a full-suss...)
If the NUS codes are continued, then you should be able to use the same process.

10% off Halfords from british Cycling expired 31 October, can you confirm when the '4 days' in question elapsed? cos this sounds expired? NUS is still active
I ordered the vouchers on 14th Nov 2011 collected the bike on the 17th,

britishcycling.org.uk/mem…its nothing there to say it's a limited offer.
Halfords, if my latest experience with my bike is to go but they'll put the wheel together wrong and then not do up the quick release which you find out when the wheel nearly falls off a week later and then dismiss you as lying when you complain.
Looks like Halfords have raised the bike price to £999.99
Back down to £900 now after £100 rise for xmas.

Has anyone used this technique lately? Buy gift vouchers at 10% off face value then claim another 10% off value of bike in store using british cycling discount?

Good heads up on this ;-)
where do you buy the vouchers from. If you join the club it just gives you a 10% discount code that cant be used online to buy voucher on the halfords page. The promo code box disappears when only vouchers are in the basket.

Any way round this?
I dont have this kind of cash unfortunately. Whats a decent racing bike for about £300?
i got the previous years version off gumtree for sub 300 with spd pedals/clip, lights, and a new D lock thrown in, had to drive from london to kent to pick it up but very small price to pay, still had receipt/warranty, tyres still had 'rubber hairs' so barely used, you can find brilliant deals on boardman, specialized, any brand really from people getting rid of bikes , my previous bike (now stolen) was a ridgebike flight T3 brand new with complete evans cycle paperwork 3 months old, owner was relocating to america the very next day, paid £140 ...about 3 years ago

don't buy a new £300 'racing' bike, it will almost certainly be rubbish with low quality wheels, no carbon fibre parts, dated shifters, chains and gears, devote maybe a week or two to different brands 2nd hand at last years models and I'm sure you'll turn up a few gems on gumtree around you

good luck
